Harry and Meghan will permanently step down as working royals, Buckingham Palace announcedThe Palace confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could not step away from the work of the Royal Family and “continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”

The announcement comes after a year-long review following the couple’s decision to step down as working royals last year. Any honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by the couple will be returned to the Queen and be redistributed among working members of the Family, Buckingham Palace said.

“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.the couple’s work over the past year shows “the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the U.K. and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role.
