IOWA CITY, IA—Deriding the work’s narrative structure as formulaic and ultimately predictable, local 4-year-old Sophia Newsome issued a pointed critical assessment of the pop-up bookFriday, arguing it was overly dependent upon the lifting of colored flaps. “Naturally, I was impressed the first time I turned up a shiny, glitter-adorned flap and Mrs.
Rabbit suddenly entered the story, but by the fourth or fifth time it happened, it became clear that [author Janet] Whipple was relying too much on this single device to generate dramatic tension,” said Newsome, admitting she asked her father to put down the book after “patiently enduring” the introductions by flap-lift of Mr. Worm, Mr. Bumblebee, Mr. Mouse, and Miss Frog.

I agree quite jejune
When you lose Sophia, you need to rethink your literary genre.
Choose your Own Adventure's mis-adventurous guide around the book was just as bad.

So derivative of Smollet and Diderot it’s painful...
Also, teach your son(?) to not chew her(?) nails. Like, do some REAL parenting..smfh. Reading is a waste of time. Get over it.
I love that certain Onion writers have been there long enough that their subject matter has evolved
Those flaps are tricky. Bend the page from behind so you don’t have to claw it to death to lift it up.
Are you suggesting there might be a lack of character development
I disagree. The pretty colored flaps hack-up the tense narration independent of pop books.
I don't recommend these for kids. The stories can't end in a bloody mess because of papercuts.
That kid doesn’t even care about character development. He needs to watch the third season of the Wire instead of playing these foolish games.
Remember Scratch-N-Sniff? Now THOSE had substance!
and me losing my virginity was pretty dependent on my uncle lifting my flaps
