Makes sense. He wouldn't have survived the lengthy and costly legal process of apealing the death penalty. Saves a costly trial, saves the victims families of going thru the ordeal of a trial and and has guaranteed convictions.
Just figured I’d point out, he was a cop.
For context since the news seems fit to leave it out- the average time on 'death row' is 16 years. The guy is 74, and not looking to be in great health. Therefore it's likely cheaper/easier to get the plea deal and skip a lengthy trial when he doesn't have too many years left.
