GMB star Kate Garraway looks and sounds completely different in incredible throwback clip
The vintage clip of the Good Morning Britain presenter was shown during a montage of her career highlights at the Tric Awards. The 54-year-old was honoured with a special award at the glitzy event in London on Wednesday night.Accepting the award, the broadcaster held up the gong and said: "This is very lovely, thank you very much. A special recognition award. Just for surviving so long, it felt like a retirement award."
Right on cue, a montage of Kate's career highlights began playing. The one memory that got people talking in particular came from the 1990s.In the clip from over two decades ago, a young Kate can be heard saying: "Good afternoon the lunchtime news for Central."
The star's voice was significantly deeper than the softer hues we're used to today. In classic 90s style, Kate's look including chunky accessories and voluptuous hair - a far cry away from the chic style we see from the star in 2021. Kate's win at the Tric Awards came just days after her successful evening at the National Television Awards last week. headtopics.com
The star beat the likes of Katie Price and the family of the late TV presenter Caroline Flack to take home the prize for Best Documentary, thanks to her work highlighting Derek Draper's battle with coronavirus. The Good Morning Britain presenter's partner fell victim to the deadly virus in early 2020, and was left critically ill and hospitalised for more than a year.
Finding Derek documented the 54-year-old's struggle with the life-threatening disease, and how Kate and their family coped with former journalist's declining health. The ITV star paid tribute to her beloved husband as she collected her award on stage at the star-studded bash.
"We want the joy back. We want it to be over. But if you are still living with the scares," she said in her acceptance speech."The fight goes on. But of course, most of all, Derek. Who should be here. Who should have the chance to tell his story, Derek, you are going to get the chance. Believe. The hope is real."
She added: "Thank you so much. It was hugely brave decision of ITV to commission this they didn’t know what they were making, they didn’t know they were making a story about bereavement or about a triumph. The mum-of-two told press after her win at The O2 Arena that she would be open to making a follow up to the documentary which aired earlier this year. headtopics.com
"Yes, is the simple answer," Kate told reporters when quizzed about a potential sequel to Finding Derek."There is a lot of challenges that we're facing now. I am now experiencing being a carer, and the challenges that are there."
"We all know social care has been in the headlines for lots of reasons and for lots of reasons people need support with health and social care," she continued."There are definitely more stories to tell. Let's hope that Derek's voice will be giving those stories. We know he's in there. We just have to get him out."
