Worldwide PC sales recovered in the second quarter, gaining 9% from a year earlier to 72.9 million units. Business was helped by improved supplies and pent-up demand, tech research firm Canalys said today.
The rebound was driven by notebooks, which have become more popular as businesses, students, and government staff spend more time at home amid the coronavirus pandemic. “Notebooks have singlehandedly pulled the PC market out of depression,” said Research Director Rushabh Doshi said in a statement. “They have been crucial in ensuring that the service, government and education sectors can continue to function in the face of unprecedented disruption and uncertainty.
