San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto was rolling Saturday night against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
Leading off the bottom of the sixth, Cueto's 70th pitch of the night was hit to left field for what should have been another relatively routine out ... except Giants left fielder Hunter Pence seemed to completely lose track of the ball in the lights. Kiké Hernández raced to third as Giants center fielder Mike Yastrzemski retrieved the ball that had sailed over Pence's head.of game to go, but Pence's flub is one of the worst ways you'll ever see a no-hitter broken up.
An inning that had started with the Giants leading 5-0 with their pitcher working on a no-hitter was suddenly 5-4. Cueto was pulled for Tony Watson after giving up the blast to Turner. Cueto said a blister on his right big toe started to bother him a bit in the fourth inning, but he remained in the game, even after Giants manager Gabe Kapler and a trainer checked on him during the sixth.
How is this NOT an ERROR? This isn't Little League... This is why MLB is stupid and I care less and less every year.
Hold all calls; we have Armando Galarraga and Jim Joyce on the line...Still the winner...this 5th inning lost fly ball is just click bait...
The headline makes one think it was the ninth inning with two outs. Flub yes, overhyped, yes.
SFGiants Hunter Pence has been a good player for a long time...he made a terrible mistake at the worst time..but we all make mistakes
Who’s Hunter Pence?
Sounds like Pence. Incompetent.
