Germany’s top naval officer has stepped down following controversial statements he made about Russia, including that Russian President Vladimir Putin “probably” deserves respect, and that Ukraine would never get the Crimea Peninsula back. Navy Chief Kay-Achim Schoenbach resigned his post Saturday after Ukraine summoned the German ambassador to the country to complain about his remarks.
“I have asked Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht to relieve me from my duties with immediate effect,” Schoenbach said in a statement, adding that the minister had accepted his request. He called the comments, which he made at a think tank event in India, “ill-advised.” The comments came at a fraught time, as Russia amassed 100,000 troops at its border with Ukraine and the U.S. and Europe struggled with how to respond.
The worst comment is him claiming that he considers himself a radical Catholic and he thinks a big Christian country (Russia) is a good ally against atheist/communist China. A naive 1800's view that is not based on any geopolitical reality
A Navy officer should know that respect is earned. Putin hasn't earned anything but especially not respect.
Annexing your neighbours sovereign land, intimidation and trying to revive old Soviet ideas -you get no respect. Little Putin, ( he's only 5'4' inches tall with heels) craves attention. He'll sure get some he won't like. StandDownRussia
Yes Indeed, Europe from the East to the West is not USA 5200 miles away. Remembrance 14-18 for banksters 39-45 for Israël and full control of Europe.
Respect is earned, Putin hasn’t earned it.
