Attorneys for the family of George Floyd file a federal civil lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis and the police officers involved in his death

Attorneys for the family of George Floyd filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on Wednesday against the city of Minneapolis and the police officers involved in his death, calling the killing part of"a public health crisis" in Black America.

Floyd, an unarmed and handcuffed Black man, died May 25 after former officer Derek Chauvin used his leg to pin Floyd's neck to the ground for nearly nine minutes. Chauvin, 44, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Police bodycam footage reveals Floyd's last words 06:46Protesters have chanted,"I can't breathe" -- Floyd's last words and a phrase embedded in the national conscience after New York police choked Eric Garner during a 2014 arrest, resulting in his death. Demonstrators also demand justice in the killings of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky, and Ahmaud Arbery in Glynn County, Georgia.

The civil rights lawsuit will set a precedent, making it"financially prohibitive for police to wrongfully kill marginalized people -- especially Black people -- in the future," according to Crump.Three other officers involved in Floyd's death -- J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao -- were also arrested and charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.'use strict';CNN.Videx=CNN.Videx || {};CNN.Videx.

New transcript reveals final moments of George Floyd's life 02:23Thao stood nearby while Lane and Kueng helped restrain Floyd.Attorneys for Chauvin, Lane and Kueng declined comment. Thao's lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The lawsuit said the city fostered a culture of excessive force and impunity within the police force and failed to terminate dangerous officers. Chauvin had 17 complaints from 2006 to 2015, the suit said.

Are you going to give the money to the people he hurt and robbed. If you do what you are supposed to do. The cops won't bother you.

Shouldn’t get a penny... guy was a deadbeat meanace to society

By how much I have had to put up with by BLM in the aftermath of George Floyd, I hope his family gets nothing!

This guy was nothing but a POS.

That will bring him back.

Is it cash in time all ready ? 😎

Autopsy report?

It's been reported that BLM raised millions of dollars after the George Floyd murder. Zero dollars went to help the Floyd family.

Does that mean, the family is gonna give BLM a donation ? All the police officers gotta do is file bankruptcy and they don't get nottin.

Of course they did. 😂

And there goes the empathy

No I don't believe it

The police officers? I feel so bad for the two police officers who were on their second day and didn’t attribute to his death but are being labeled as murderers because we don’t care snouts facts anymore. We only care for people’s feelings.

$$$$$$$$

Good

Time to make some $$$.....

Of course this turns into how much money can I get. No the man didn’t deserve to die & the officers deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law. But money fixes all feelings & emotions for some🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ drug felon and he robbed a pregnant woman at gun point to her stomach

George Floyd and the long battle to defund Chicago's school police'We need counseling, therapists and psychologists,' one student said. 'I see this with my own two eyes.' Why is the focus so much on reducing the police rather than re-orienting the police? They are a necessary public service, and while I understand that there is a reasonable limit to their presence, limiting their resources is not going to help anything. REAL NEWS So I guess they want to make Chicago look even more like a third world African country.
