Fresh Off The Boat's Constance Wu Details Harassment From Former Co-Star

Constance Wu has opened up about the online harassment she endured in 2019 following her divisive reaction to the renewal of Fresh Off the Boat for a season 6, including an admonishing direct message from one of her former co-stars. Wu and Randall Park co-led the ABC sitcom created by Nahnatchka Khan from 2015 to 2020 throughout a six-season run.

Wu was immediately met with severe backlash from fans of the show, with some accusing her of being ungrateful for how it brought her into the mainstream.

"[She told] me that nothing I could ever do would make up for my atrocious behavior and disgusting ingratitude. How I had sullied the one shining beacon of hope for Asian Americans. How selfish I was to not consider everyone else’s jobs on the show. She demanded I bake cookies for and grovel at the feet of [my co-star] Randall [Park] and every single crew member of FOTB but said even that wouldn’t be enough to make up for what I’d done.

How Fresh Off The Boat's Backlash Traumatized Constance Wu This is not the first time Wu has opened up about the emotional turmoil the social media fallout has caused her. Earlier this year, the former Fresh Off The Boat actor returned to Twitter for the first time with a statement discussing her memoir, including sharing that she had attempted suicide after the backlash to her comments.

While she may have faced backlash at the time, public opinion on Fresh Off The Boat's Constance Wu has shifted back in her favor in recent years as she's returned to the spotlight with the likes of Prime Video's The Terminal List and the upcoming live-action Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile movie.
