The fatalities per 100K is the important number. The large majority of people who contract the virus are not hospitalized or even very ill. Protect the most vulnerable. Pointless to try to protect everyone.

“Cases”. Why not report a more meaningful metric; e.g., normalized ratio between positive tests and confirmed hospitalizations... Surely, we could do better to both educate and inform people of the status and risks. Reporting “case numbers” is essentially meaningless using PCR.
