Fort Lauderdale, Florida, plans to strike a deal with Elon Musk's The Boring Company to build a tunnel between its downtown and the beach

The Boring Company would offer rides in Teslas to hundreds of people a day for $5-8 per person, the city's leaders have said before. A similar ride in an Uber would cost about $10 per trip at current prices, according to Uber's ride price estimator."This could be a truly innovative way to reduce traffic congestion," Mayor Dean Trantalis said Tuesday night, announcing the plan, though the costs to the city were initially undisclosed.

Why one Florida city wants to build a two-mile tunnel to the beachThe local government envisions the Las Olas Loop as a way to alleviate parking stress at its beach. Drivers will be able to park cars at the downtown Brightline train station, which offers intercity rail service around Florida, and then ride in a Tesla to the beach. "This is the type of big, bold idea that we should be exploring," Ben Porritt, a Brightline spokesperson, told CNN Business.

There is nothing in Fort Lauderdale worth building a tunnel to, especially the beach. This is a gargantuan waste of money and further proof that we need to be taxing billionaires before they come drill holes in your state that ruin natural aquifers and benefit no one.

Though we make progress on the COVID front, there’s no end in sight for the stupidity pandemic.

A REALLY intensive Structural analysis that includes a 5 year climate change shift projection model would be a great idea. causetheressandeverywhere

The idea is good. If it follows channel tunnel, London underground and other underwater routes. Using flood doors etc to protect the tunnel. I understand about cars luggage in public transport cab be hard. Maybe autonomous vehicles at latter date too. Great tesla advertising

Watch them lose money and get a shitty tunnel that they regret as soon as it opens, if it even ever does

Yeah, I won't be using that tunnel.

Built in sand and mud with threats of flooding common. What could go wrong?

Great (not) ... on shifting sands

I’m not super familiar with that area but does it make sense to build a tunnel there with sea levels rising?

Within 20 years Fort Lauderdale will be under water so the damn thing won't even have to last that long.

I want to say a big thank you to lisaFx090 Just got my profit of $7500 in my Bank account. This is indeed a trust worthy platform to invest

Sounds Boring

Despite times 🙈

No y’all can’t even keep buildings up and you wanna do some underground shit 🤦🏻‍♀️
