A federal judge on Thursday granted former New York Rep. Chris Collins's request to delay the start of his prison sentence for securities fraud by two months after Collins cited concerns about the coronavirus pandemic and its threat to inmates.

Collins, a Western New York Republican who had been scheduled to report to prison for a 26-month sentence on April 21, is now set to begin his sentence June 23.Collins's request came as many inmates and those facing prison sentences have asked to be released from confinement or to delay their sentences out of fear that incarceration creates particularly ripe conditions for the rapid spread of the virus. Those requests have yielded mixed results.

Federal prisons will confine inmates to cells for 2 weeks due to coronavirus"It would be particularly dangerous for an elderly person with underlying health conditions like Mr. Collins to report for incarceration right now in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the United States," his lawyers wrote to US District Court Judge Vernon Broderick.

would this privilege (get out of jail free) card be issued to anybody who is not at the elite level? Ridiculously and shamefully unfair/bias!!!!

Tough shit

I bet R Kelly wished he had the same judge.

only in the USA...

Lucky bastard, now release the black men you are holding for marijuana and speeding/parking tickets and child support.

helping each other to fight coronavirus is a must..

tRUMP will pardon hill right Barr

This is understandable. Justice delayed but it won't be denied. This scourge will disappear as abruptly as it appeared and hey presto, he'll be in prison.

Interesting.... privilege...

Double standard

Who says that the rich white criminals aren't treated different than anyone else.

The white peoples power.

alaskarebel well i am sure there are other guys who don’t think it’s a good time to go to jail

Injustice

Maybe he's got an inside tip on some virus-related stock --- gotta get that trade in --- felon

We need fact checkers for news shows same as they have fact checkers for when Trump speaks

All of a sudden we see a miraculous conversion to bleeding heart. Not happening. ForgetAboutIt and go to jail.

Disgraceful.

😒

Are those in prison now going to be let out? WhereIsTheJustice

Fuck him, lock him up.

Wasn’t he gonna die in prison anyway? Well... good for him making sure others get ventilators first.

He can just wait for Inhofe to join him.

One law for the rich white guys, and another law for everyone else.

They are releasing all kinds of criminals in Houston. Scary as hell

Surely all criminals should be treated the same..

Hope this works for all prison sentences ...

Nooooo

Finally a person that hasent MURDERED anyone is allowed to get out of jail
