Seven have been charged with trafficking thousands of protected critters.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced this week that investigators have arrested seven in connection with a criminal ring that had illegally trapped thousands of state-protected flying squirrels and trafficked them as far away as South Korea, potentially worth more than $1 million.Key Factsthe arrests came as the result of an investigation that began early last year into reports of illegal trapping of flying squirrels in rural parts of North Florida’s Marion County.
