February 12, 2020, 6:06 PMCatch up on the developing stories making headlines. An Atlanta firefighter was suspended without pay for reportedly breaking protocol when he went into a burning home to save a 95-year-old woman.
The complaint states that Dwyer broke policy by entering the home"without your crew members, which is in immediate conflict with no freelancing, accountability and maintaining crew integrity."A video of the incident, also obtained by ABC News, shows the house engulfed in flames.
Capt. Daniel Dwyer, of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, was suspended without pay over the incident. Gerdis called Dwyer's suspension"absolutely odd." Stafford said in his 14 years with the department, he could not recall a similar suspension.Gerdis said that while policies are always in place, those are meant to protect the firefighters.
So... the policy in Atlanta, Georgia is that people should be allowed to burn alive in the event of a fire if they’re old and worthless. Is that what I’m to take away from this because honestly if I’ve missed the mark, someone please inform me.
So a cop and shoot someone and get a paid mini vacation but this man risked his life to save another and doesn't get paid? Lord make it make sense.

I guess the clause has it that he is only to fight fire.
He did rescue her. Safety protocols are not to be set aside. Luckily he did not endanger or get a team member killed or burned. But the discipline is warranted. It is a dilemma though. Maybe a common one. I suppose the valor can be awarded and also punish the breach too.
That's why they need to be seen as guidelines. They exist for a reason however they cant cover every conceivable possibility. People at the front need flexibility to weigh the info and act.
While teams need to be coordinated don’t forget each individual chooses to go out on a limb as do the team and that is what its about really. So he saw through and was prepared to go through the risk and achieved the objective where otherwise they could not secure and/or meetsave
'He didn't just risk his life by running in there. He risked the lives of the other firefighters who would be compelled to try and rescue him if things went south.'
Please!!! Give this man a raise!
Complete nonsense, that is just delirious
Omg give the man his job back. He was doing what he is trained for. So now they are allowing murder....sounds like Solient Green

No your not
He should be exempted from the punishment, without breaking the protocol that old lady would have been dead.
