COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A federal judge awarded the parents of Otto Warmbier, a college student from the Cincinnati area who was imprisoned in North Korea and died after being released to his family, $240,330.41 plus interest.

Kahn gave the New York Office of Comptroller 10 business days to turn over the money and interest to Cynthia and Frederick Warmbier. In January 2016, Warmbier was arrested at the Pyongyang International Airport while waiting to leave the country. The government accused him of trying to steal a propaganda poster from his hotel. He was convicted of subversion and sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labor.
