What life is like for Hong Kong's 'coffin home' dwellers during the coronavirus outbreak

HONG KONG - To escape the confines of his Hong Kong “coffin home”, or two square meters of living space, Simon Wong usually spends his days in the park playing mahjong with friends, only returning at night to sleep.

“During SARS I didn’t even wear one mask, I was even working then,” he recalls. “I lived in a place like this, with even more open space, 30 people and not one wore a mask.” His current abode is one of 18 plywood “coffin homes” in a dusty subdivided apartment in Hong Kong’s most densely populated neighborhood, Mong Kok. An improvised shelf holds his TV and groceries, while his clothes and other necessities hang on hooks around him.

Are we supposed to feel sorry?!

The mask he is wearing is useless for what its being used for....the death rate is 2% which is less than the common flu---this action is only making it spread more....

This is what the HK government doesn't want you to see. They like to pretend that all HKers are rich and the 80 year old grannies collecting rubbish on the streets are secret millionaires who collect rubbish for a hobby. asiasthirdworldcity

Hong Kong Bookseller Sentenced By China To 10 Years For Passing 'Intelligence'A Hong Kong bookseller who published critical volumes about Chinese leaders was kidnapped by Chinese agents while vacationing in Thailand in 2015. Now, he's been sentenced to 10 years in prison for providing intelligence to people overseas. This human rights violation shows how non-democratic nations and their leaders greatly fear a free press and free speech. In a democratic nation like the U.S., the leader with autocratic ambition labels any free press criticism as “fake news.” OMG, every time I think the US has gone to hell, I read something like this that illustrates how bad an authoritarian regime can actually be. This sort of thing is what Trump’s aiming at and it’s unconscionable! Hong Kong hasn’t made it yet. StandWithHongKong China_is_terrorist

Hong Kong extends school closures in attempt to contain coronavirus outbreakHong Kong has announced that all classes in schools will be further suspended until at least April 19 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. What happens on the 19th..? The virus dies off? Sounds suspect. Why approx 7 weeks to 'contain' a deadly virus. Why not suspend indefinitely until they can find a solution? Remember, Hong Kong was conquered by the British. Hmmm a 'specific' time sounds suspect & questionable. Isis Holy smokes.
