Up to 40 percent of edible food in America goes into the trash uneaten, according to the, often because consumers store food incorrectly or misunderstand what the"best before" dates on food labels really mean.
Yet even with all the food that goes uneaten, some 40 million Americans in 2017 had to deal with not having enough food, according to the non-profit organization. Further, around 15 million families that year suffered from food insecurity, meaning that they at times lacked access to enough food to feed each of their members.
"The FDA strongly supports our shared goal of reducing the amount of food that Americans waste through important efforts like today's agreement," Dr. Ned Sharpless, acting commissioner of the FDA, said in a press announcement."The issues of food waste and food safety go hand in hand and we will continue to work with our federal partners and other stakeholders on enhancing our efforts to reduce food waste and do it safely.
So they’re going to let bullshit food pass inspection.
