Subpoena the couple's credit card records. Then subpoena the security video from the shops, restaurants, gas stations, campgrounds, hotels they visited. You will be able to tell when the woman stops appearing in the videos.

When I first read about this case, I wondered why the guy hadn't been screaming for help since she vanished and trying to find her.
