After the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, far-right activists launched an online campaign to form what they called a Patriot Party as an alternative to the Republican Party.
Facebook Inc. worked to kill it, citing information it said showed the movement was being pushed by white nationalists and self-styled militias who had worked to instigate the riot, according to internal company documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
It's far less risky for Facebook to silence a few widely-condemned hate groups than it is to silence the millions of racist uncles and conspiracy-obsessed friends-of-a-friend that drive clicks. Their business is built on the amplification of hate; they know where it comes from.
I stopped putting anything political on Facebook because of the danger of Facebook jail (that I've been in many times). There's no way to appeal and there's no way to have any control over what they do to whomever they want. Better 2 just post pictures of family and friends
There's no 'magic button' that they can press that fixes the issues with social media. Anything they algorithmically suppress is going to elicit cries of censorship particularly given how AI, the only way they can do it, utterly sucks right now.
Inciting violence is just plain wrong and should not be allowed on social media platforms.
