It took decades, but Chuck Feeney, the former billionaire cofounder of retail giant Duty Free Shoppers has finally given all his money away to charity. He has nothing left now—and he couldn’t be happier

But Feeney has come in from the cold. The man who amassed a fortune selling luxury goods to tourists, and later launched private equity powerhouse General Atlantic, lives in an apartment in San Francisco that has the austerity of a freshman dorm room. When I

Feeney gave big money to big problems—whether bringing peace to Northern Ireland, modernizing Vietnam’s health care system, or spending $350 million to turn New York’s long-neglected Roosevelt Island into a technology hub. He didn’t wait to grant gifts after death or set up a legacy fund that annually tosses pennies at a $10 problem. He hunted for causes where he can have a dramatic impact and went all-in. , which summarized Feeney’s decades of go-for-broke giving.

At its height, the Atlantic Philanthropies had 300-plus employees and ten global offices across seven time zones. The specific closure date was set years ago as part of his long-term plan to make high-risk, high-impact donations by setting a hard deadline to give away all his money and close shop. The 2020 expiration date added urgency and discipline.

It’s better to die a broke hero, than live a wealthy coward!

Shove your generosity, working class people on minimum wages created your wealth .. this act serves to legitimise capitalism, as well as to extend it further and further into all domains of social, cultural and political activity.. BS

God have a special place for you... 🙏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌😍😍😍😍

Can you help me

im trying to imagine Trumps opinion on this ? 🤔

Please help and tweet family of 6 in need of help cash app $churchill9890

a billionaire's brain power, talent, and effort to help change systems with money should be far more impactful than the actual fiscal amount.

getkristiluv didn’t get around to citing new models on call, but wanted to share a few with you. Chuck Feeney is a fascinating case study. He went so far as to say: ‘He didn’t wait to grant gifts after death or set up a legacy fund that annually tosses pennies at a $10 problem’

africaupdates BillGates wants to make more money ! With a Covid vaccine

Hallo Herr feeney

nothing would make an Igbo man do this.

✌🤞 Peace and Love, bootlickers.

I would say he received more than he gave. He gained true riches!

Imagine he’d just paid his employees so well as to not amass a billion dollar fortune? Oh well, I’m sure he’s enjoying this dose of pride before the eternal torture starts.

Parabens Charles! 💙🎉👏👏

Good for him, but he isn't 'broke.' He has 2 mill for retirement.

If people like him paid taxes, there would be no need for charity.

he could have just not stolen billions from his employees

Admirable.

I need one. Send future Angel 👼 Investors my way.

THANK YOU MR FEENEY!

Why charity? A lot of them are known for having expensive management structures. It's probably much more efficient to seek out people who could use an extra... Or invest in childern's playgrounds, selfdefence-sportclubs for kids, find the real-life story's and enjoy doing it

Class has nothing to do with money and everything to do with grace, empathy, generosity , vision and quiet compasionate gestures. In a world full of trumps be a Chuck Feeney! Great story a welcome change.👏

Respect🙌🏽

'Daddy, how come we never have Thanksgiving in the big house by the lake any more?' 'Well, that's because we don't own that house any more; Grampa gave it away.'

Simultaneously, very responsible and generous and, at the same time, wildly irresponsible and selfish. This dick has 5 kids and, who knows how many grandkids. If I were one of his kids, I'd be furious.

Thank you Chuck

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

This is a very smart man, a commendable man. You can't take it with you so why not? If I were to ever be in a position to do for others I definitely would.

I would have been more than happy to take his money. 😆 💰

This isn’t on mainstream news because people who claim to be fighting for the poor don’t have sympathy for the poor they just hate the rich

hi elonmusk you would be so cool if you were more like this guy

JeffBezos and others must learn

This is incredible! I hope more billionaires will follow his example!

A Foundation would have grown the money and used it to cater to the needs of people for centuries to come

Unbelievably generous and yet twits/people still won't be happy and will still condemn those more successful than themselves. Jealousy is a very powerful emotion

Yeah looks real happy

People don’t want charity they want a fair share of their community’s wealth and resources.

Belarus says Lithuania broke international law by recognising Tsikhanouskaya as leaderNeighbouring Lithuania violated international law when it recognised opposition politician Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as Belarusian leader on Sept. 10, Belarus' upper house of parliament said in a statement on Tuesday. To be fair to Lithuania, they only broke the law in a specific and limited way. Isn't that right, BorisJohnson? Breaking international law is the new meme Rigging an election is a violation of international law

Exclusive: Britain has moved to break fisheries deadlock in Brexit trade talks - EU sourcesBritain offered tentative concessions on fisheries in trade talks with the European Union last week, two diplomatic sources told Reuters, just as London was publicly threatening to breach the terms of its divorce deal with the bloc. Like MichelBarnier will fall for this again. 🥰🥰☕☕ EU must agree UK is an independant coastal state, with rights to its costal waters. UK can give EU temporary allocation while it builds up its fleet. But it is UKs waters to allocate, not EUs to give away over time.

Univ. Of Missouri Latest To Expel Students For Violating Coronavirus RulesI'm a British-born reporter covering breaking news for Forbes. Epic! I think some young will inevitably be prone to make poor decisions, not all will. So a presumption or argument of let it happen is even more irresponsible coming from parents and leadership. I for one think expulsion is fine. Safety first and idiots can die, just don’t kill us
