KHARTOUM - Sudan needs $8 billion in foreign aid over the next two years to cover its import bill and help rebuild its ravaged economy after months of political turmoil, its new prime minister said on Saturday.
The 61-year-old economist, who has worked for the U.N. Economic Commission for Africa, said he had started talks with the IMF and the World Bank to discuss restructuring Sudan’s crippling debt, and had approached friendly nations and funding bodies about the aid. Sudan has been in economic turmoil since it lost the bulk of its oil production in 2011 when South Sudan seceded after decades of civil war.
Sudan is rich in agricultural resources but high taxes, corruption and mismanagement have held back investment in the sector for decades. “Stopping war, which represents 70% of the expenditure in the budget, will create a surplus that can be invested in production and particularly agriculture, livestock, and related industries,” he said.
Sudan needs 10 b every few years..they keep on rebuilding...every new PM states the same thing lol
The repetitious process of aiding failed civilizations will only drain the coffers of western civilization while the people purportedly receiving the aid are unable to succeed if gold was force fed to them. It’s always about the people and their intellect as shown by history.
Just like that, they ask for handouts. Why don't you get it from the Prior leader of Sudan? They get foreign aid, and they pocket it, which is why these dictators get billionaire level rich. We are sick of this.
When Sudan takes billions dollars interest helping America's homeless then maybe they look better for future aid
Who is going to pay Alberta to rebuild our economy? -fix it yourself
High expectations
Yeah, me too.
Put him in contact with JustinTrudeau
Ask Trudeau,he likes giving money away. He’ll literally step over our Canadian homeless and our veterans to help foreigners, seriously though!
Yeah me too
handouts alone won't help rebuild anything, especially not in Sudan. Time to lead a revolution of your people and create change built by the people. Focus on basic economics first before taking in billions only to have it squandered away. Where's the plan?
No, use your own money. New government wants to line their pockets with outside money.
