Housing advocates fear the end of the federal eviction moratorium will result in millions of people being evicted. They fear removing people from their homes as coronavirus cases rise will lead to more exposure, particularly for low-income populations.

“Without the CDC’s moratorium, millions of people are at risk of being evicted or becoming homeless, increasing their exposure to COVID just as cases are rising across the country. The effects will fall heavily on people of color, particularly Black and Latino communities, who face greater risk of eviction and more barriers to vaccination.”

The Biden administration had hoped that historic amounts of rental assistance allocated by Congress in December and March would help avert an eviction crisis. But the distribution has been painfully slow. Only about $3 billion of the first tranche of $25 billion had been distributed through June by states and localities. Another $21.5 billion will go to the states.

In St. Louis, where the sheriff’s office handles court-ordered evictions, Sheriff Vernon Betts said 126 evictions had been ordered pending the end of the moratorium. His office plans to enforce about 30 evictions per day starting Aug. 9. Sgt. William Brown, who leads the evictions unit for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, expects many evictions to follow the end of the moratorium. He rattled off statistics that showed the steep decline in evictions since the pandemic began: nearly 4,000 in 2018 and 2019, then a plunge to about 1,900 in 2020.

The CDC rn

How is it that over 40 billion dollars in funds, already set aside for rent & mortgage assistance, have not been disbursed or transferred yet? But apparently, there's no delay in serving eviction notices. Is this systemic racism rearing its head?

This nation is broken. What is the reason for a government if not to protect the most vulerable? Why would we accept leadership that does not lead? History will mark the Covid-19 Pandemic as the date the decay of the US took hold.

So what about 30% of fed money that has yet to make it to landlords specifically designated for such relief? And this didnt just get sprung on folks. Most refused to make any attempt to catch up. I was raised knowing you pay taxes first then rent.

So? They should’ve been paying their rent. There was extra unemployment. Stimmy checks. And nearly every place of business is hiring. Go to work and pay bills you bums

Get a job!!! Pay your own rent, I do!!!!!

Should property owners risk losing their property to lien holders? How does this whole thing work? If renters are allowed to stay rent free, then the Fed should trickle down the moratorium to owners and lenders, too.

And why use that picture?

They should have done something about it if they fear it so much

I’ve been homeless this entire time

I am wondering how come when it comes eviction and resulting exposure to Covid, mass media never mentions the safe, effective, widely available vaccine. 🤔

It’s creating a bubble in the housing market that will pop at some point in time and probably need further government assistance.

Congress did not make this a priority? Why? That need to explain.

More jobs out there then unemployed, unemployment needs to start assigning jobs to these bums and if they don’t take them then kick them off all Gov aid

The larger real question is where will all of these people go - where will they live?

Stop letting cops, municipal building departments, trade unions, and land banks conspire to take these properties.

These advocates gonna pay their rent, or just expect landlords to eat it for eternity?

Boston woman dies while hiking in ArizonaThe woman, who was in her 30s, was found near a home and authorities believe she might have been seeking help before she died. This is sad. They shouldn’t have left her go back alone. 🙏 I’ve done myself a few times but generally speaking going hiking alone is just not a good idea. Especially for a Woman. My thoughts go out to her Family.
