About 95% of the water that flowed into the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta in the first two weeks of January ended up in the Pacific Ocean. Here's why.

Environmental rules designed to protect imperiled fish in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta have ignited anger among a group of bipartisan lawmakers, who say too much of California’s stormwater is being washed out to sea instead of being pumped to reservoirs and aqueducts.

“With so much excess water in the system, there is no reason that exports south of the Delta cannot be increased,”But experts say it’s not that simple. Mount said it would be a mistake to ignore the environmental benefits of the water. The smelt are akin to a “canary in the coal mine” for the entire health of the delta, he said, and the first flush is biologically very important for the dynamics of the estuary.

“Government regulations should not and must not deny our constituents critical water from these storms,” U.S. Rep. David Valadao andwrote in a letter to Newsom and President Biden last week. “We have a moral obligation to provide Californians any relief that is within our control.”But the environment also suffers when delta water is diverted for agricultural and urban use, said Felicia Marcus, a fellow at Stanford University’s Water in the West Program.

“Right now we’ve got a bonanza of snow, and it’s looking pretty good at this particular time of year, so the idea of shorting these poor fish and the ecosystem in a time of somewhat plenty isn’t very compelling,” Marcus said.A battery of January storms has blanketed the Sierra Nevada in extraordinary snowpack, but will it last through the winter?

Because your woke governance is incompetent. Enjoy

It goes to show the drought is a fake crisis. Just like climate change. If we are so short of water they would find a way to make ways to capture every drop of water. And they would've built all the necessary infrastructures. But they have no plans. Which means it's all a lie.

Piss poor waste water management. It really is that simple.

because why piss of the lordly environmentalists by building dams and water reclamation projects when harrassing people to only water their flowers on thursdays and saturdays or else face sanctioning from the State is so much more fun to do?

Gravity

Crazy idea. . . The Nabateans, a nomadic tribe in the middle east, were historically famous for water conservation, such that they took Petra and turned it into a prospering oasis for years after they left. Has anyone inventoried their methods and then developed ways. . .

Great job of retaining a natural resource. What a bunch of Yambags
