Elijah McClain's death puts focus on the use of ketamine injections during police calls.

"It is, like many drugs, quite mysterious as to how it works in some cases," Varin said.

"Since it is highly unlikely they can tell the state of health of the individual or if they have non-prescribed drugs, alcohol or prescription medications ... these combination of risks could cause any number of problems, including respiratory depression and cardiac arrest," Varin said. It is not uncommon for medics to use ketamine outside hospital settings to treat patients who appear agitated and may harm themselves or others, according to the state.

Hart, the neuroscientist, said that given the amount of ketamine McClain is known to have received,"I am certain that he thought he was losing his mind."McClain's"sudden collapse after an intense struggle" with police is referred to in the coroner's report as an example of excited delirium.

I can't believe you let those morons administer drugs.

Before his death/murder was talked about, I would have never, ever thought ketamine would be used in an arrest. It literally paralyzes and your unable to even use your own muscles to breathe

WHY Are Police Injecting A Dangerous Drug Into Civilians?! THEY Are NOT Doctors Or Nurses! CriminalCops PayAttentionSheeple

Hope banning this is in the House Floyd Policing Reform Bill. 🇺🇸🗳🌊 VoteBlue2020

We all seen the video why the hell he ware this mask what the need for it while he is working alone .

This is a horrible story, but people need to work on their reading skills... The PARAMEDICS injected the kid... NOT the police... End result is just as horrible, but how about we stop baiting and instigating.

That's not Enough!

no need just call a therapist.....they can wait

WTF!

Another example of legalized genocide and the umbrella if qualified immunity. People of color are subjected to torturous waves of violence perpetrated by those wearing a gun and a badge with the law and politicians on their side no matter what they do🤔

As horrible as this is I find it ironic that it’s only coming up now (the use of ketamine). Considering that a couple of years ago Tony Timpa died in police custody with shades of George Floyd and Elijah McClain. 0 fucks given by the media.

This headline is why you’re Fakenews

Ketamine didnt kill his. The cops did.

Also wouldn't a benzo like Xanax be a much safer drug to be using? Ketamine is literally used as an anesthetic.

Beachgoers partiers Trump voters! People arent buying the fear that expert use to coral them into choices like war free trade

A mentally ill Tennessee teen became agitated, Mom calls 911 to get him to the hospital for meds, police arrive grab the boy in only his underpants, take him outside where they shoot and kill him for not following orders. The presiding cop said we don't have time for this.

Fix your title quit baiting people by implying the cops injected him, the medics did.

The cops didn't do a ketamine injection the paramedics did.

What gives you the authority to intrude on a precious body and administer a deadly assault on a human life? End this inhuman practice immediately!

Law enforcement shouldn’t deliver drugs to anyone for any reason. I don’t want a review. I want these people fired and charged. This is one of the most cruel cases of police brutality. He was 23 yr. 140 lbs. anemic. No arrest record. Walking home

fucking finally

No cops didn't inject him. Paramedics did.

EMTs are not qualified to determine when ketamine should be used. There are too many health variables that would contradict usage without in depth knowledge of the patient's medical history.

Anyone ever heard of a K-hole? This is not just any old sedative. It can be terrifying, and I can only imagine the terror of experiencing it in a violent attack. It’s cruel and unusual punishment.

How is drugging citizens even legal?

*MURDER So weird y'all misspelled that

Had no clue cops could 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

They’re just injecting people with ketamine? What?!

What are police doing with drugs as a policing tool?

Yeah wtf 'innocent until injection?'

they seriously do that? that sounds retarded

During a well person check this was given to my mother and literally turned her into a different person for a few days. Admitted to the hospital and everything. It needs to stop. All days after my brother passed.

They really should not give to just anyone. They had no way of knowing if McClain was allergic to ketomine. Putting in a choke hold, which stops flow of blood to brain, which in turns can cause low heartbeat making the drug unsafe.Stop police and medic use.

They killed him. You know it and the world knows it now.🖕🏿🖕🏻🖕🏽 fuck the racist cops.

He tried his knowledge, I contested it... he blocked me. Not fairplay at all.

Catch a buzz

& lots of other things too

Should be ketamine injections for all participants. The police can sleep it off in the front and the perp in the back of the patrol car.

I am completely saddened for this young mans loss of life he’s one of the truly innocent🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

They injected him ketalar in his neck, without a proper ventilation resuscitation ambu mask? 😢 This medication is administered under a physician's supervision, cause it create difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

isn't ketamine used for horses?

I can’t believe you can unwillingly inject K into people. That’s mind boggling.

Don't call the cops or paramedics in Colorado. They are truly incompetent.

If I can't use ketamine, the police shouldn't either

Naw it put into focus an innocent man being murdered by police. The ketamine was just a part of a terrible murder.

Posted ad nauseam for DAYS. Fresh content, please....

I’m not a health care professional so I stand to be corrected but prior to the administration of a drug shouldn’t there be a patient history or background taken prior to giving someone a drug of any type?

Horse tranquilizers? Really? How is this even legal?

Why was he being arrested and why was it administered? Was it necessary When did the labs confirm it was a ketamine-related? These are basic journalistic questions.

Ketamine. They injected him with ketamine. WHAT THE FUCK

Rule number one when sedating patients, MANAGE THE AIRWAY! Seems like those medics failed to take positive control of his ventilations. I question if sedation was needed to control an agitated delirium as well

BLM

Ketamine didn't kill him.

Ketamine is a controlled substance how were they even allowed to do this in the first place?

So blame the paramedics. 🤷‍♂️

How the fuck was this ever allowed

Looks like murder to me . Police reform needed.!!!

So why is BLMTerrorists saying the cops killed him if really the paramedics did it on accident? 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. BackTheBlue

Ketamine didn't kill him!

Every single time I read about this boys death, I just get so freaking angry. Freaking cops suck.

Finally we’re starting to see the use of Ketamine in these situations questioned! Ketamine does not need to be used outside of the hospital setting!

I don't know why they would ever think that injecting someone whose medical history, current medications, and potential illicit drug use is unknown is a good idea. Doctors have to know all of that before giving you a physical, but police can inject ketamine without knowing it.

NBC IS THE ENEMY

The report says this guy weight 220 pounds. This photo looks like his middle school picture. And also, he was innocently going to the store to get some iced tea (no skittles). Reminds me of the Trayvon case where they used a picture at 13 when he was 17 at the time.

1) I had no idea this was a thing 2) no way a cop in trained enough to do this. Cops are the worst

SAY HIS NAME ElijahMcClain

Who administered the injection?

We were never supposed to know that cops & rogue medical staff were going around poisoning us. Police cant be reformed. The system that's tolerated their abuses all these centuries cant be reformed. Our entire system of government is rotten & we'd better do something BIG quick

Let’s just clarify that the police don’t administer ketamine injections.

Poor guy didn't deserve this

I don’t understand the changing of this just because one guy died. And they don’t even know how he died after the autopsy. They don’t know if it was the chokehold or ketamine. Ketamine is widely used. People are so damn stupid

The government shouldn’t be allowed to inject taxpayers with drugs against their will

Biden needs to jail Trump.

mitchellreports This thread and the comments in it. are the problem. Just take a gander at how many people are vilifying the police when...... 'the decision by paramedics to inject him with a powerful sedative' this is the reason the media lies to you. It works like a charm. dumb fucks.

mitchellreports *Paramedic calls Not police.

How is it remotely possible that police have ketamine in their possession and inject anybody with anything, let alone a drug like ketamine? That drug is widely abused. I have not one doubt some cops are injecting themselves. I'm an RN.

mitchellreports I hate that we have to keep putting these videos out there for you to see, but I know that if we tell you it’s happening, you always seem to think that we’re over-exaggerating or making it up. It does not happen to you because cops don’t do you like this.

Man, a 100,000 pounds of coke.

mitchellreports What could possibly be the rationale for the police using ketamine on anyone for any reason?

💔💔💔💔💔

It should put into focus a lot of things.

As it should.

What is that?

Excited delirium is a fake condition that is somehow still being perpetuated today. It apparently only exists while someone is being arrested, and in McClain’s case he was somehow still suffering from after passing out despite resisting being a “symptom”

Anyone who watched the video would see officer injected Elijah McCain.

Ketamine

Doctors accidentally kill people all the time. Riots? No

The medics say ketamine is used to calm people down in situations like this. Unfortunately, Elijah McClain didn't need to be calmed down since he was hardly breathing with a weak pulse. Perhaps they should have dispensed the ketamine to those cops!

If someone is chasing you with a weapon and you get hit and killed by a car the person chasing you is still more responsible for your death than the driver of the car in the eyes of the law

I still do not understand why they did this...I mean....how was this even part of the approved formulary Everytime I see his sweet face, I'm filled with rage and sorrow

Okay, how were they able to access his medical history under those circumstances?...Hospitals usually ask you about allergies. This is barbaric, Oklahoma...or wherever this occurred.

Those cops murdered this young man. They should be charged with murder and spend decades behind bars. NoJusticeNoPeace ElijahMcClain

OnTheSpotLethalInjection JudgeJuryExecutioner

Why the heck are police deciding to administer any drugs? That's crazy. Police have zero medical training on medication. Giving any medical treatment without consent. Paramedics should know better too. There's no bottom to how low this all looks.

The police are being aided by EMS to get away with murder. PERIODT.

Why would they inject ElijahMcClain unless EMTs & AuroraPoliceDepartment were experimenting on this victim. Both AuroraPD & AuroraEMT need to be held liable for murdering this kid Aurora AuroraPD ElijahMcClainWasMurdered 4thofJuly PoliceMurder BlackLivesMatter Bounty

when I heard of that injection I went ' Oh No, that doesn't sound right '

The use of Ketamine needs to stop. The paramedic who injected Elijah needs to be held accountable as well. He made a huge mistake and overdosed Elijah.

The secret is to be respectful of the police by recognizing they are doing their job. Whatever you do, do not resist. If serving is not being handled properly, file a complaint and let the justice system work for you.

If this was done in a hospital without patient consent, the whole hospital will be sued.

cheryl_marlin Until this, I really didnt even know people COULD be dosed with drugs by paramedics against their will. How common is it

twisting the truth... It was the F'n paramedics that administered this medication not the Police!! Way to keep Fanning the Flame...

This is such a tragic story. I cannot believe that anywhere in this country we are authorizing police or paramedics assisting to sedate people. Out of control. Where's the use of force line here? I can think of no scenario where a person should be tranquilized like a dog.

❤😍

Why is it legal for the government to snatch you up and inject you with drugs?

Would you kindly disappear? realDonaldTrump POTUS DonaldJTrumpJr WhiteHouse BLACK_LIVES_MATTER BLMprotest pedophiletrump trumprapist rapisttrump racisttrump pedotrump creepytrump BLM

Unless there is an actual medical emergency, I would really prefer EMTs and medics not dose ANYBODY who is being held by police.

It was medication administered by paramedics, obviously. If we're questioning the use of it, let's do that, but remember it was medical authorities who chose to give it.

Yeah like what the fuck? Should be illegal as hells

What police? Aren't you calling to defund them?

You’re telling me I can get free ketamine if I just wild out? Ok

Sounds like ketamine all around would eliminate some problems.

This is dumb in so many ways. Only an Anesthesiologist should be administering doses on Anesthetics to humans.

How does a paramedic or police for that matter have access to Ketamine? It's a controlled substance that is more restricted than xanax or klonopin. If you need a script renewal for you anxiety meds you need to visit your Dr. in person. Liability for Dr. who prescribed this dose?

Isn’t ketamine a dangerous drug?

Ketamine is an awful drug, whether used on people or animals. It needs to be administered which great care, dosage & coming out of it, needs to be monitored closely. Quiet, dark space, or flashbacks can happen. Not a great choice!

Ketamine is very safe and would have only knocked him out without depressing his breathing.

I don't know anyone who knew police were doing that and I don't at all understand how that would be legal.

As a nurse IMEO there is no way cops should be injecting anyone with anything, too many issues, allergies etc or other medication could cause serious problems, this shouldn't be happening, period.

IT SHOULD NOT BE ANY QUESTION ABOUT GIVING ANY KIND OF DRUGS TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT IN DESTRESS WITH OUT A DOCTORS GUIDENCE ie. THEY GAVE ELIJAH MCCLAIN JUST ENOUGH TO CONTRIBUTE TO HIS DEATH AND IT SHOULD NOT BE ANY QUESTION EMT FAILURE TO PROPERLY ACCESS THE CRISIS FAILED

So they will stop using it in hospitals as well?

Exactly. When did we start administering dangerous drugs as part of routine? Ketamine is dangerous and needs to be closely monitored and clearly with the dosage he was given, the person who administered it had no idea what they were doing. This is terrifying.

Since when has ketamine been routinely administered in the field? That is typically a drug used by anesthesiologists or CRNA’s with close monitoring.

To be clear, ketamine was administered by paramedics that were called to the scene, not the cops.

That young man was already extremely weak and near death from the abuse administered by the police officers before the paramedics ever arrived. Never trust the coroner's word when police are involved in a death. Usually the police, the coroner and the prosecutor are a team.

Such a grotesque violation of human rights. SF, Boston and Philadelphia will be holding truth commissions, not sure when. Once that happens all the sick things cops do will be laid bare and we'll really understand what we're dealing with. Stay in the streets. DefundThePolice

The ketamine didnt kill him. The cops did.

Oh but when I asked an undercover cop for ketamine it's soliciting drugs and I'm arrested

The fact that the DA feels that there is no evidence to charge ANYONE for this young man's death is truly appalling

AMERICA the land of the free....... UNTIL some authoritarian decides you need a chokehold and lethal injection..... Doesnt sound so free anymore

Damn the police and their (Checks notes) Medical procedures performed by medical authorities

Ya think?

Police are doctors now are they? Disgusting.
