On the final day to qualify, several Houston marathoners got in right at the buzzer. Here’s how 15 runners earned a spot in Atlanta. OTQinHOU

, men and women need to finish with gun times of 2:19 and 2:45 in the marathon, respectively, on or before January 19. With an almost completely flat course and nearly perfect race conditions , race officials say there were 42 total new qualifiers, with 17 women and 13 men hitting their times in the marathon and five women and seven men doing so in the half .

While Houston wasn’t the only race that drew a large number of OTQ hopefuls leading up to the Trials, it saw an uptick in interest from runners wanting a second chance after missing the standard at theThe last-chance nature of the race also inspired hopefuls to convene and work together in, especially on the women’s side. Many runners agreed that the camaraderie was key in pushing them to the line on time.

The 2020 Trials will be held on February 29 in Atlanta. Here are some of the postrace reactions from 15 runners who qualified in Houston on Sunday.
