Zoetis había estado probando su vacuna en visones, gatos y perros, dice Lamberski, y tenía unas 27 dosis de sobra.Esas dosis no estaban autorizadas para su uso en personas. Así que el zoológico decidió utilizarlas en sus simios, calculando que los peligros de utilizar una vacuna que no había sido probada en primates eran superados por el riesgo de que los animales contrajeran COVID-19.

“Tiene bastante sentido. Estos animales son increíblemente valiosos”, dijo. “Hay un número muy finito de grandes simios en cautiverio”.
