"It's a tough decision along the way when voters are saying no because we need money to operate," Superintendent Scott Schmidt with Northridge Local Schools in Licking County said. "Northridge Local passed its renewal levy this month that will generate more than $2,000,000 a year for the small school district. It was one of four Licking County school districts to pass all tax issues with its voters in May.
"Some people said it wasn't great timing," Todd Johnson, treasurer with Marysville Schools said. "We're spending more than we're bringing in this year."Marysville School leaders are now considering a pay freeze which they acknowledge will increase class sizes. The district has not passed a tax issue to generate new funds in 15 years.
"We do by a longshot," Fleeter said. "We average about 400 school property tax and bond issues per year. The last ten years, that number has been down by a third. I think most school superintendents will tell you it's getting harder and harder to pass levies."Fleeter will be featured on the ABC6 Town Hall Hidden Costs of the Housing Crisis which will air Tuesday at 7:30pm on ABC6.

Police in Henderson, Kentucky, said they were called Sunday about a body floating in the river and authorities preliminary identified the remains as those of escaped inmate Bradley Gillespie, 50. The discovery closes out a dayslong manhunt. Authorities said fellow escapee James Lee, 47, was captured last Wednesday after a police pursuit of a stolen car in Henderson but Gillespie, a passenger in the car, ran off.
