Bad news for lovers of bread, pasta and baked goods: Eating lots of gluten-heavy foods from a young age could eventually lead to gluten intolerance.

A study published Tuesday in the journal JAMA suggests that eating higher-than-normal levels of gluten during the first five years of life can increase a child's likelihood of developing celiac disease, a digestive disorder that damages the small intestine. Higher gluten intake was associated with a 6.1% increased risk of celiac disease autoimmunity, an immunological response to gluten, and a 7.

Celiac disease affects millions of peopleIn people diagnosed with celiac disease, eating gluten damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents nutrient absorption. It's estimated to affect about 1 in 100 people worldwide, and more than 2 million people might not even know they have it, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation. Gluten intake is considered to be a factor in developing celiac disease, but according to Tuesday's study, quantity plays a major role, too.

Indian cuisine do have lots of gluten foods.. Nothing happened to anyone till now..

Who said so, this is nonsense.

Oh well eating it when you’re young is when you can burmit anyway so I’ll live with it

I swear, cnn social media managers have to be the absolute worst content creators in the history of social media. The photos almost never match the posted content. How do these people have a job?

Dont threaten me with a good time.

I probably ate hundreds and hundreds of pounds of gluten-heavy foods growing up. No problems here. Kids are raised to be pussies nowadays. But at least their rooms will be adorned with 'Participation' trophies.

Oh for Christ sake

Oh no how could people eat bread for THOUSANDS of years ?!?!?

If that is true, then we from the motherland will be doomed

How much money did those pathetic idiotic researchers took from the gluten free industry to conclude this?

Hmm

This is hilarious... Nice picture for a gluten article 🥔 = 🍞. 😂👍

since you showed me that potato, that is what I want tonight for dinner, looks good!

BS

Get all bad things out of our food supply now ! Go to contaminated free foods and packaging save America all Americans !

whatever, we all die, pass the baguette

There is no gluten in potatoes.

Yep

Who paid for this “study”

Blah blah blah

People will believe what they choose to believe, I don’t give credence to ANY of these so called findings

My mom fed me garbage food since I was a toddler. And when I mean garbage I mean great tasting unhealthy food, and I’m still slamming gluten on the daily lies

Maybe the pasta and baked goods are to blame and not the gluten itself?

Like peanuts, I'll bet you eating no gluten from a young age is much more likely to lead to gluten intolerance.

But also, nope!

Potatoes Rule!

It's the U.S. production/chemicals. Gluten intolerance is exceedingly rare outside this country.

I have intolerance due to FakeNewsCNN 😂😂😂
