Some foods are better than others when it comes to boosting your energy output, although there is no magic answer, an expert told Newsweek.

Yet while some foods certainly are more associated with energy than others, there is no such thing as a magic food, Elizabeth Mayer-Davis, chair of the Department of Nutrition, and director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, told"Energy metabolism, so the energy you feel, is a function of many biological processes, minute to minute throughout the day," she said."There are no magic foods.

The science behind this lies with how easy they are to digest. Simple carbohydrates, which comprise either one or two sugar molecules, can be easily used for energy—though their fast digestion rate means a rapid rise in blood sugar may be followed by a crash, according to Healthline. "In general, carbohydrates are digested and metabolized for energy faster than protein or fat, so this can be important to have energy for exercise," said Mayer-Davis.A stock image shows a variety of fruits and vegetables. An expert has told Newsweek there is no magic food for energy levels.Really though, all foods give energy in the form of calories and a healthy, mixed diet is the way to go, Mayer-Davis added.

"Be sure to consume a wide variety of foods, and be sure to consume only the amount of food that you need to enjoy a healthy weight."
