The Houston Open could potentially lose its spot in the PGA Tour if the organization decides to make drastic changes to its schedule to compete with a rival golf league.

HOUSTON, Texas -- It's a response to an overseas rival that could reverberate locally in Houston.

If the Houston Open, which dates back to 1946, keeps its place on the PGA Tour schedule, it will no longer be part of the PGA Tour season when the changes occur. "To say that everybody supports this would be an exaggeration," Monahan said."But it's the right move for the business, and ultimately, it's the right move for our players and fans. And that's something I look forward to proving in the years ahead."

There won't be conflicts. All players in the rival league have been banned by the PGA.

It’s been just hanging on. Moving the date didn’t help, although the spot before the Masters was not a great week. Austin has taken some of the Texas attention that Houston used to enjoy.
