The Eagles surprisingly drafted Jalen Hurts in the second round, with pick No. 53, in the 2020 NFL Draft as starter Carson Wentz was entering his fifth season. This happened after Wentz had started all 16 games in 2019, with the Eagles going 9-7 and reaching the playoffs. They lost their first playoff game after Wentz was knocked out with a concussion.
“Quarterback is the most important position in sports,” Roseman told reporters. “We have shown how we feel about Carson by our actions, by the amount of picks we put into him, and we showed it by the contract extension. We believe this is the guy to lead us to our next Super Bowl championship. But for better or worse, we are quarterback developers. We want to be a quarterback factory.”
The Eagles finally benched him for Hurts in the second half of Game 12, a game the Eagles would lose to drop to 3-8-1. Hurts took over and Wentz never started for the Eagles again. There was some thought the Eagles would bring him back and start him in 2021, but the sides grew apart in an uncomfortable separation that led the Eagles to trade Wentz to Indianapolis for a conditional pick that turned into a first-rounder after Wentz started for the Colts this entire season.
Some analysts have suggested that the right move for most franchises would be to draft a quarterback, let him play his five years, and then let him go, thereby avoiding the giant QB extension that eats into your salary cap. The idea of trying to win in your quarterback’s rookie contract window -- because you might get great play for a fairly cheap price -- is a common goal.

Baker loves a good competition… the dude’s a gladiator… Comeback player of the year 🌱
I think the Browns are beyond drafting guys to push him. He’s a 1st overall pick, in a 5th year option. Either extend him or move on at this point
