DOTHAN, Ala. - The Dothan City Board of Education have approved rezoning for the school district that will go into effect for the 2024-25 school year.
The plan was approved on a 4-2 vote, with District 1 Board Member and Vice Chair Brenda Guilford and District 2′s Franklin Jones voting against rezoning. A short-range capital plan will be implemented as part of the rezoning recommendations for the 2024-25 school year, which will include the establishment of a 6th Grade Center at Girard Intermediate, converting Girard Primary to a K-5 school, converting Jerry Lee Faine Elementary from K-6 to PreK-5, and converting all other K-6 schools to K-5.
In addition, the Board approved the construction of four additional classrooms at Highlands Elementary and Morris Slingluff Elementary to facilitate future growth in their zones.
