Before asking why someone isn’t planning on having a second child, consider the following ...

almost never directly affects those outside of it, and we generally know better than to question a parent’s judgement on their parenting decisions without a bit of backlash. However, when it comes to having an only child, people generally believe that they have both your and your child’s best interest at heart when they warn you against it or tell you “you’ll change your mind.

,” we ask listeners to write in about their experiences being an only child or being parents of an only child. A lot of parents have written in defense of their choice, others are still on the fence and looking for an outlet for their indecision. Our mission is to normalize whatever the parents decide and empower them to have the family size that feels right to them.Pregnancy is Hard

Pregnancy is a wild ride for any woman, but for many it can actually be very traumatic. There are a ton of different things that can go wrong, and even if they don’t, labor really hurts. Not to mention the restrictions during that nine month period and afterward what it does to your body long term. It is hard and it should be respected if a woman doesn’t feel the need to repeat it.

The reasons to have one child are as multifaceted and complex as the reasons to start a family at all. These decisions are made with careful thought and planning, and often a little luck, and do not deserve to be scrutinized or judged. So next time you feel the urge to ask a parent why they aren’t trying for a second, consider your own bias and whether it’s really a constructive question to ask. Then pocket it, and save it for your own family planning.

I didn't realize how personal that question was until someone asked me that.

Personally, I've never asked anyone about their parenting plans, pregnancy, who they are married to, what sex or color their spouse is. None of my business, though happy to listen if they want to share. Apparently, there are plenty of fence ears.

I like to say 'Because I got it right the first time' or 'He's perfect, no need to try again' 😂 I especially say this when they would ask in front of my son. Like it's implying he's not enough. 😡

Or for that matter, don’t say ANYTHING pertaining to someone’s kids. My kid is not your business. As simple as that

It is the worst question. It got to the point that I just shame them with the truth.

I have 3. But my dad asked me, in the midst of baby exhaustion etc when my first was 6 months old: so when are you going to have another. Yeah it pissed me OFF!! Just don’t ask. They may not want more, they may not be able to have more. Either way, not your business ppl!

Race mixing...gross.

Eche si. No sean sapos vale

Don't ask any parent if and when they are having another child. It's just rude.

First of, an only child can be just as happy! You don't NEED siblings for that! Also kids cost a shit ton of nerves, effort, time and money. Not everyone is up to giving that multiple times. I don't question why someone has 0, 4 or 10 kids, cause it's none of my fuckin business.

I'd love to have another but my sons fathers. Yeah😥

regardless of our infertility history, I say 'one and done!' bc strangers don't need to know my details.

Definitely do not. Do you know the number of times that total strangers called me selfish! Not knowing anything about my story...
