The most important difference between the film’s premise and humanity’s actual looming crisis is that while individuals may be powerless against a comet, everyone can act decisively to stop fueling climate change. As research psychologists and the authors of “Science Denial: Why It Happens and What to Do About It”, we recognize these aspects of science denial all too well.
Myth #2: Disturbing realities as described by scientists are too difficult for the public to accept The title phrase, “Don’t Look Up,” portrays this psychological assumption and how some politicians conveniently use it as an excuse for inaction while promoting their own interests. For example, belief that a single technological solution, such as carbon capture, will fix the climate crisis without the need for change in policies, lifestyles and practices may be more grounded in hope than reality. Technology can help reduce our impact on the climate; however, research suggests advances are unlikely to come quickly enough.

Fact is that, science can never be 100% certain
It can be much better not to act, than to act on wrong science. Proof: The wrong Climate Change Science has hurt people. Instead of preparing for the mini ice age they have prepared on how to waste resources. It has turned academia into a hotbed of censorship and corruption.
There is verifiably NO such things as 'scientific certainty'! JOS
If 'they' can calculate a % of certainty and discuss how it was figured, they should be honest and tell the people at the outset. Just saying 'The Science' says so causes distrust and politically motivated conspiracy theories, ss we can now plainly see.
Yes, we all know that the 'science' is infallible....until we find out that the supposedly 'objective' scientists are not that.....they push their agenda at the risk of losing their reputations.
Why do you want to change what has worked for five billion years and how do you plan to stop the climate from doing what it’s been doing for five billion years?
Science is the process that we use to search for facts. Science doesn't guarantee that a scientist has a final answer.
It's 101 percent sure
Science that cannot be questioned is NOT science!
Don’t Look Up illustrates the importance of understanding how effective propaganda works. Social media, “news” media, television shows, and cinematic storytelling. All part of the big social experiment.
We need to teach people that science is often wrong.
Believing man-made ClimateChange exists is NONSENSE - there is as much evidence for it as there is for the existence of God. However, to say there is a huge amount of money to be made out of the ClimateScam is 100% accurate!
The 'inaction' argument should be reversed IMO. The choice to disregard consequences & pour billions of tons of polluting chemicals into our air yearly is very much an action. The 'wait & see' choice should be reframed as REFRAINING from gross pollution unless proven safe.
There’s no hundred percent in most everything. Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
I believe that science denialism is just unaccounted-for suffering ostensibly and sometimes actually ignored by the learned.
Could happen any day folks! Count your blessings!!
True. Perfection is unattainable…as is zero risk. Sometimes one can get close (and close enough) but it’s rather asymptotic.
🔎👀
Does it though? Have you acknowledged the historic, unprecedented actions the Biden-Harris Administration has taken to address climate change in 2021 even without the BBB? Look at DOI, EPA, & DOT. By not acknowledging historic investments we are also not looking up.
It’s not somuch a myth as a cynical strategy to keep selling fossil fuels
