Men play a game of dominoes in their spare time in the Batey La Lima community, in La Romana, Dominican Republic, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021. Human rights activists say an increasing mistreatment of the country’s Haitians coincided with the rise of Luis Abinader, who took office as president in August 2020. an migrants pushed past him. Accused of living in the Dominican Republic illegally, they knew they had no choice but to go back across the border to Haiti.
“We’ve never seen this,” said William Charpantier, national coordinator for the nonprofit National Roundtable for Migration and Refugees. “The government is acting like we’re at war.” He suspended a student-visa program for Haitians, prohibited companies from drawing more than 20% of their workforce from migrant workers and ordered Haitian migrants to register their whereabouts.
Racism and rejection of Haitians is still palpable, with Dominicans cursing them or making disparaging comments when they see them on the street. While his country has demonstrated solidarity and collaboration with Haiti and will keep doing so, he said, “I also reiterate that there is not and will never be a Dominican solution to the crisis in Haiti.”
Maybe you should move them to there, because here thre are too many haitician people and theirs women only come to take his children here Our country is full of problem and nobody looked back this mistake If you follows thinking that , it's will be late
The weirdo Dominicans under this post trying to pretend racism exists everywhere but La República Dominicana is funny af. Y'all papis gotta chill.
Caribbean islanders should be set for fasttracking through migration. We want free travel throughout North and Central America.
How many US at?
*temporary stay* is just that, temporary. Maybe next time they dont even offer that. People are so ungrateful
Pretty ironic that Dominicans have a strong racist hatred towards Haitians, a people that live just at the corner of the same island they inhabit. It doesn't make sense to me. A good chunk of the Dominican population has a considerable degree of African mestizaje.
They're still playing that colorism game...
