The CDC is very skeptical for these reasons.

N100 mask (or ffp3) DO PROTECT from infection by coronavirus. You just have to wear them well ajusted (on the nose) and wash your hands BEFORE and AFTER removing them+ remove them by touching the strings only.

This virus is spread through water vapor droplets, so yes, in this case it would help some.
