Yu Darvish surrenders three home runs in first inning, as Padres lose for fifth time in six games against L.A. this season

And playing the team they are chasing only makes them look even more like they’re running in reverse.

Home runs by Freddie Freeman, Will Smith and Justin Turner — in a span of four batters — against Yu Darvish in the first inning were enough for the Dodgers to win for the third straight day.In a 7-2 loss, the Padres managed 10 hits, two more than the Dodgers. One of the Padres’ hits was a home run, Luke Voit’s solo shot in the eighth inning that got them within five runs.

In their six meetings this season, the Dodgers have outscored the Padres 33-10 and homered 13 times to the Padres’ three. That helps explain why the Padres have come back from a deficit of three runs or more to win just three times this season. That history is not all the rich. But still, it is somewhat shocking they seem this far behind the Dodgers.in their past 15 games against them. Their ninth consecutive loss at Dodger Stadium dropped the Padres 4½ games behind L.A. in the National League West standings.in the major leagues in runs scored and have the fewest home runs among any team in the top 18. On one hand, that’s an impressive testament to their ability to scrap together runs.
