It is “fashion” because the “well worn” look is faked. Distressed clothing is meant to look like a well loved, favorite pair jeans or sweater you won’t part with. These days, clothing is so disposable, purchased cheap for quantity, so that it never gets to that state.

I can't help but think that distressed goods came about when manufacturers were looking for a way to utilize defective goods without having to repair or dispose of them causing them to lose money and time.

This makes me so angry as a mom in a long line of moms who spent hours and energy to keep their kids from having to wear tattered clothes to school because they had no other resources but the ability to sew and repair.
