LATEST: $19.1 billion disaster aid package stalls in House over conservative objections.

After months of delays, Congress will need still more time to clear a bipartisan, multi-billion-dollar disaster aid package, after conservatives blocked a move to quickly speed the measure through the House Friday because it lacked border security funds.

But it failed to pass because one member, Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, a former aide to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and a member of the House Freedom Caucus, objected to the move, criticizing the effort to pass the massive spending bill without a recorded vote, and because it lacked any border security funding and corresponding cuts to offset the new spending.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attacked the Republican move.

On Thursday, senators scrambled to cut a deal over the long-stalled bill before adjourning for the week. The agreement has been held up for months over various disputes, including border security funding and relief for the island of Puerto Rico. “This legislation has already taken far too long to deliver,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said at a news conference Tuesday. “It is past time to put partisan politics aside, move past any tangential questions and secure a final agreement that can become law.

Texas Republican Chip Roy, a former aide to Texas Wait he is asking for fiscal responsibility and restraint AND funds for the archaic wall? As Trump relents on Puerto Rico and border funding, senators reach deal for $19.1 billion in disaster aidSenators reached a deal on a disaster aid package that was held up over immigration issues and President Trump's opposition to funds for Puerto Rico. The questions are: Will the House approve? And will the President sign it? More money that will not be used for what its needed.. .. more money going down the drain. I live in Puerto Rico, and the primary problem our government has, its that they dont know how to manage money. I appreciate the help, but the people of Puerto Rico will not see a dime. That's a lot of water.
