President Joe Biden's decision to go it alone on his American Rescue Plan could sink any specter of bipartisanship as he moves on to the next big-ticket item in his first 100 days. USA TODAY's cmsub and joeygarrison explain.

His victory lap may be short-lived.

which would allow measures to pass with a simple majority – a move he has so far resisted in his call for unity. President Joe Biden said Friday that despite the stronger than expected numbers, the latest government jobs report proves that his virus stimulus bill, the American Rescue Plan, is"urgently needed" to get the economy"back on track.

Liberals are growing increasingly wary that progressive pieces of Biden's agenda could be on the chopping block, including his plans for voting rights, gun control, climate change and immigration, he said. A push to includein the stimulus package collapsed after a key Senate official ruled that it could not be included in the measure.

“The final vote tally is of – not just secondary importance – but third or fourth overall importance,” he said. “What really matters, both materially and politically, is whether or not that action takes place. Whether or not the checks are written, the support is provided. Whether or not people’s vulnerabilities are not just recognized but attended to.”

"We paid a price for it, ironically, for that humility," Biden said, an apparent reference to the 2010 midterms, in which Republicans took control of Congress. "Speak up and speak out about the American Rescue Plan," he said."Each piece isn't just defensible, it is urgent and overwhelmingly supported by the people. It's good policy, and it's good politics.

The House passed the latest stimulus bill, but what's in the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package? What happens next and when will people see any money? But unlike the Obama stimulus bill, Biden's pandemic relief plan will have a tangible impact on Americans, according to Matt Bennett, the executive director of Third Way, a center-left think tank.

A legislative defeat would have raised questions about Biden’s ability to pass any meaningful legislation, but its passage won’t be a “springboard to the production of all kinds of landmark legislation – far from it," Howell said.

cmsub joeygarrison What? “Republicans being assholes will sink any specter of bipartisanship in the future.” There. Fixed it for you.

cmsub joeygarrison Biden didn't choose to go it alone. Congressional Rs chose to go it alone and vote against the majority of their constituents. Why do journalists think partisanship is defined by getting at least one elected extremist from the minority party to agree with the rest of the country?

cmsub joeygarrison The GOP have no intentions of supporting anything bipartisan to help the American People - they're tactic is to delay in hopes of taking the majority in the midterms

cmsub joeygarrison He’s not thinking—— literally

cmsub joeygarrison He did not ditch bipartisan the GOP previously did the same with the tax cut so it’s erroneous to suggest he did so even the other side do not want to see Biden succeed by their constant ploy.

cmsub joeygarrison When something comes up for a vote, the Rep are not thinking about the American people. They are thinking about Trump. They are doing what pleases him. I hope the American people see what these people are doing and vote them out. Get someone in office for the PEOPLE not TRUMP.

cmsub joeygarrison Another stupid thing to say coming from USA,knowing the republicans said no to everything the democrats want people to have to help them get their life back in order.

cmsub joeygarrison No choice. Became readily apparent that the Repubs. were not interested in bipartisanship or negotiation. It's the new Repub party...'us vs. them' politics.

cmsub joeygarrison Perhaps, you could enlighten as to why the Republicans failed to compromise when Democrats did under Trump. Don't lecture us, please. We are not deaf, blind or stupid.

cmsub joeygarrison I find this narrative a bit lazy by joeygarrison Rather than asking Republicans to defend their opposition and pushing back on answers where they bring up debt....it’s just easier to blame lack of bipartisanship on Biden. Garrison certainly chose the easiest path.

cmsub joeygarrison Yeah, just like Mike Pence refusing to be hanged by Trump’s supporters on 1/6. Why don’t people try harder to get along with the people who have no interest in getting along?

cmsub joeygarrison Don't blame Biden for R obstructionism.

cmsub joeygarrison Bi-partisanship is a mirage. GOP uses the mention of it as a way to sabotage Dem programs. End the filibuster and cram as much through while you can.

cmsub joeygarrison Joe Biden didn't ditch bipartisanship the Republicans did. I've never seen a more hateful group, so unwilling to work for all Americans. God willing it will end the Republican party as it is currently known.

cmsub joeygarrison 76% of americans, including 42% of Republicans are in favor of this act. Saying that it's not bipartisan because Republicans are acting like toddlers is not saying that Joe Biden isn't unifying the country. Call Republican behavior what it is, that of a toddler

cmsub joeygarrison Bipartisanship is a nice fantasy on the DEM's part, but Republicans want total control. They're taking steps at state and local levels across the country to change voting laws to better ensure GOP senate and house victories in the future! Ultimate prize in 2024, the White House!

cmsub joeygarrison This talk of bipartisanship was just an illusion! The two sides will never see Eye to Eye on anything as long as the GOP continues to worship at the alter of TRUMP! It's not a party anymore, it's a cult lead by Trump and the mysterious 'Q' person who ever he or she is! or it IS!

cmsub joeygarrison Alone? 50 Seators and an overwhelming majority of the American people. That's an Army 👀😎

cmsub joeygarrison Damn, that is one helluvan obnoxious lead in. Wtf? It should read,'as GOP continues to behave like entitled brats, refusing to represent the interests of their constituents, the Democratic Party worked to fulfill the will of the People in order to save the Country from 45s mess.'

cmsub joeygarrison When have the Republicans worked with the Democrats? You have to go back 20+ years. Obstructionism is their game. Biden is moving forward to help the country. He cannot be faulted for doing what must be done. POTUS

cmsub joeygarrison The America Rescue Plan is critical to our country helping the sick and the needy!

cmsub joeygarrison This when bipartisanship died!

joeygarrison cmsub Oh for fucks sake. When will the press acknowledge there is no bipartisanship and the GOP under Mitch only obstructs.

cmsub joeygarrison He’s all about unity👎

cmsub joeygarrison Who GaF? The GOP thinks the word 'bipartisan' means accepting their racism fascism, misogyny, and their other forms of misanthropy. If 'establishment Dems' grew a set, and quit being suckered by the GOP, the resulting social progress would end the GOP.

cmsub joeygarrison 🇺🇸

cmsub joeygarrison Why is bipartisanship defined as 'Congressional Republicans have to support it'? 76% of Americans supported this plan, including Republican governors, mayors, and 60% of their voters. Bipartisanship should be defined as working for the common good.

cmsub joeygarrison I am so proud to finally after four years to have a President that knows what he is doing ! And knows how to get it done! Hallelujah!

cmsub joeygarrison Makes the republicans agree on things it’s obvious they have to agree on. Turn one bill in to 10; you’d get 100 to zero bipartisan-passed bills or clear obstruction and know who to blame. Get f’ing smart!!

cmsub joeygarrison Dems have got to be smarter and stop playing to republican games. They have 2 years to get things done and show progress. Who’s advising these people? Republicans will always find a reason to NOT support legislation on big bills. You want bipartisan? Break the bills up!!

cmsub joeygarrison He was not given a choice. The Republicans and Joe Manchin asked for changes and got them and then they turned.

cmsub joeygarrison Here’s a secret: there was never going to be bipartisanship. Never so good for POTUS

cmsub joeygarrison So you are saying the last four years have been bipartisan compared to now? Have you heard about the Senate going nuclear? I though so!

cmsub joeygarrison This headline is a lie. Republicans decided to go it alone not Joe. In fact they lobbied Murkowski to vote against her constituents in Alaska. Don’t be a shill for the GOP USA TODAY!!!

cmsub joeygarrison The GOP was never going to agree with anything that was not THEIR idea

cmsub joeygarrison This bill was a must pass for Biden.

cmsub joeygarrison Infrastructure is next bill to focus attention on all states that need federal $$$$$$$$$$$ to fix a myriad of problems. Republican politicians will have to come to the table or risk any hope of re-election in 2022.

cmsub joeygarrison He had no choice! Republican's aren't and never will be on board w/ bipartisanship. They don't want to help Biden & the Dems get credit for anything. R's WANT D's to fail so they can win back the majority in 2 yrs & prez in 4. They will obstruct everything, as usual! Losers. GOP

cmsub joeygarrison 🤮🤮🤮

cmsub joeygarrison Best Decision Ever since there was ZERO 'bipartisanship' coming from republicans, truly the worst representation of a party in years. McConnell, Ryan ruined them and trump finished them off.

Anitaroberttson cmsub joeygarrison The Republicans never tried. Collins came with an uneducated 1/3 the size bill. That’s a joke. Republicans do not care to work with Dems when we are in majority or have presidency. How many times do they how to show you who they are before I get it?

cmsub joeygarrison Unity means the losers join the winners, not the other way around.

cmsub joeygarrison The GOP doesn’t want bipartisanship. Unity to them is doing what they want - no compromise. Nor do they care what the majority of their constituents want or need.

cmsub joeygarrison As I read thru comments, my devotional verse is very appropriate. We need much more love and less finger pointing and harsh words. The only way to unite and heal is thru Jesus Christ. Praying for us all 🙏

cmsub joeygarrison Really 2 f**king months into this ! And in the middle of a pandemic the GOP refused to help states !!

cmsub joeygarrison 75 percent of Americans is plenty bipartisan!

cmsub joeygarrison Yea like you can get republicans to compromise. They tried but look what republicans do (nothing for regular people)

cmsub joeygarrison Bipartisanship was sunk when not a single Republican Senator voted to help the American people.

cmsub joeygarrison nice bust in the back ground. did anyone figure out who owned that Lincoln bust, that Trump packed out?

cmsub joeygarrison Because he is the president! He made promises to his people that voted for him. He is moving forward. Not getting stuck in old politics. He's played that game. Sure he may have to again. Trying to do what he said he would. He's reached out the olive branch.

cmsub joeygarrison Uh he’s far from going it alone. 60% of the country support him.

cmsub joeygarrison President always need bipartisan support and he will be the loser if he thinks he can do it all alone.

cmsub joeygarrison This is misleading. 70% of all Americans supported this bill. The choice to put politics over country was clear from the nay sayers. They had no problem funding massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corps that blew up the deficit, but chose not to help most workers directly.

cmsub joeygarrison Shove everything through for 2 yrs, make Americans happy, and the RNC will lose the election again in approx 2 yrs

cmsub joeygarrison Because he can!

cmsub joeygarrison You cannot negotiate with reTHUGlican terrorists. They must be voted out.

cmsub joeygarrison All ya care about is getting money! Just open up the country and let everybody go to work. You can’t stay hidden like Biden all your life. Let’s just see what happen next after the money’s gone

cmsub joeygarrison Pragmatic decision. GOP are pathological obstructionists.

cmsub joeygarrison

cmsub joeygarrison DemocratsAreDestroyingAmerica

cmsub joeygarrison GOP defines bipartisanship as give us what we want. No negotiating. All along they would oppose anything biden does

cmsub joeygarrison Whoever tweeted this obviously did not read the story. Gannett is engaging in clickbait here. The story clearly states that the GOP refused to negotiate. End of story.

cmsub joeygarrison Americans needed help now. Republicans refused to help, so President Biden got it done. PERIOD!

cmsub joeygarrison 'Republicans Petulently Loudmouth over Bipartisanship They Refuse to Extend When in Power' FixedThatForYou

cmsub joeygarrison How the hell does anybody with morals and a conscience, in a county that spends trillions on defence, vote against spending money to help fellow Americans who are struggling and desperately need it Over to you GOP!

cmsub joeygarrison Dems got four years of being blocked, ignored, and ridiculed. Republicans cab shove it at this point. Their party is dieing. Best thing we can do is pull the plug.

cmsub joeygarrison President Biden has bipartisan support with the American people. No deal making with those who incited an insurrection.

cmsub joeygarrison What's the point of bipartisanship when 6 GOP Senators and 121 GOP Representatives don't recognize him as the legitimate POTUS? You can't have bipartisanship in bad faith.

cmsub joeygarrison Both Democrats and Republicans APPROVE of COVID relief. It's just GOP in Congress who don't care. Stop saying 'bipartisan' as a Washington thing. POTUS is being bipartisan for America

cmsub joeygarrison There will never be true bipartisanship in congress. It would take a National Disaster or World War to make congress United.

cmsub joeygarrison Dear USA Today: ‘Bipartisanship’ doesn’t mean “doing nothing that will anger Republicans in Congress”. It means passing common sense legislation that is supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans, both Democrats and Republicans alike. Your narrow definition fails.

cmsub joeygarrison He tried, and he was talkimg to the wall of obstructionist. Republicans were never on board.

cmsub joeygarrison Gave Murkowski her amendment and she still didnt vote for it. Screw em!

cmsub joeygarrison There was never any real hope for bipartisanship, with the GOP still clinging to the former guy

cmsub joeygarrison

cmsub joeygarrison Biden has broad bipartisan public support for his policies. The GOP politicians on the other hand are just plain broken right now. They would rather tweet endless social grievances than lead. The country is moving forward in spite of their obstructionism.

cmsub joeygarrison This is such a dumb tweet. So tired of the bipartisan angle when one side refuses to do their job and govern. Do better .

cmsub joeygarrison I doubt Biden is even choosing his own pudding at this point. The dude is senile af.

cmsub joeygarrison He learned from Obama. The Republicans have just been obstructionists, out of power, the past 25 years

cmsub joeygarrison He was seen that 12 years ago and just going big. Just ignore TraitorGOP BS

cmsub joeygarrison F’ck bipartisanship

cmsub joeygarrison So much for his campaign promise and victory cry of unity and bipartisanship...

cmsub joeygarrison I mean not really. They negotiated even though they didn't have to and they had the votes. Maybe they'll bring something new to the table next time so they get something out of it.

cmsub joeygarrison Bipartisanship is no longer unless another party takes the now dead GOP's place. GOP in its current form should be killed off into history forever.

cmsub joeygarrison Oh, get real! Over 50% of Republican voters in America wanted this bill to pass. I'd call that a bipartisan bill. It's not Biden's fault if the GOP congress refuses to listen to the majority of their constituents. Americans are starving and can't pay the bills. Biden had to act.

cmsub joeygarrison President Biden put the people first not falling for republicans stalling. Republicans didn’t have a problem giving the 1% and large business a tax break. Media needs to stop driving an idea of bipartisanship. Bipartisanship at who’s expenses?

cmsub joeygarrison did he not compromise? he definitely worked with GOP. this is misleading

cmsub joeygarrison You need the other party to be willing to engage in bipartisanship. The GOP was not

cmsub joeygarrison President Bush attacked in 2001, 911 War. His wife, Cheney, Hillary Clinton also were under attack. They are not free to speak to me. I was told say hi daily until told different.

cmsub joeygarrison Republicans want 'unity' on their terms, democrats do not touch them with a barge pole, they speak with 'forked tongue'. XXX

cmsub joeygarrison Good for him.

cmsub joeygarrison Bipartisanship died when 15 Republican Senators refused to denounce The former President or vote to impeach. They are clearly in collusion with the insurrection.

cmsub joeygarrison Why work your socks off to win the White House and the senate and not use this power? The Democrats are doing the right thing. They are using their numbers.

cmsub joeygarrison Republicans decided to not help the American people . They gave the POTUS Joe Biden no choice but to move with just Democratic votes. I’m exceedingly grateful he did.

cmsub joeygarrison the u.s. doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

cmsub joeygarrison Bugger bipartisanship it's a meaningless concept these days.
