“There’s nothing in the data that suggests that kids being in school is in any way dangerous,' the education secretary said of COVID-19 concerns.

include hand washing, mask wearing, not sharing materials, and keeping people at least 6 feet apart. DeVos emphasized that the guidelines are not hard rules.

“The CDC guidelines are just that, meant to be flexible and meant to be applied as appropriate for the situation,” sheon “State of the Union.” She repeatedly declined to say whether the federal government is following the CDC’s guidelines when asked. DeVos instead highlighted a need to balance virus safety with children’s education, arguing that keeping kids out of school not only stunts their education but in some cases fuels mental health issues.

“There’s nothing in the data that suggests that kids being in school is in any way dangerous,” DeVos told Wallace, despite the World Health Organization on Thursday acknowledging the possibility that“We know that other countries around the world have reopened their schools and have done so successfully and safely,” she said.

She further defended Trump’s comparison of the U.S. to several European countries where schools have safely reopened. That’s despite those countries — Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden — reporting as few as

Except, anytime they ask her about kids being asymptomatic spreaders and bringing covid home to their parents, who then go to work and spread it to other adults, she starts in with her rhetoric again and avoids the question. So, basically, if school is safe, everything is.

Until one gets sick and looses a life. What’s it going to take to make you realize how serious this is.

Yeah.. gonna take the cdc's data over yours.. you're not even qualified to be a secretary at a school let alone a gov department head.

lol k

Sooooo the students who will be in the classroom and on campus with TEACHERS, SECURITY, AND OFFICE STAFF isn’t a risk?🤔🧐This lady is a quack

They are now showing kids are the ones getting COVID.. Teens 20 something... and now we’re certain there is no worry.

I’m a teacher in special Ed. And I have to admit I am scared.. But honestly from all I hear it looks like Long Island is opening on time.

Cruella...

Obviously, she has no clue how schools operate. As the Secretary of Education, she should at least realize that schools are crowded, with closely designed classrooms, packed cafeterias, long lines, etc. not to mention full of kids who may or may not care about masks or distancing

So let me get this straight. So the education secretary knows more about a pandemic than the CDC? She must have been trumpnotized.

There's no data to prove that it's safe either. Kids aren't getting tested, so they may be asymptomatic carriers. We're putting our families and our teachers at risk.

BetsyDeVosED you so confident in this statement that you would be willing to send your child to school this fall

So its not safe for people to go shopping, watch professional sports, go to restaurants, or movie theaters, but it IS safe for hundreds of kids to go to a school.?

There's nothing in your head, BetsyDeVosED , that proves you know anything about education, schools, or COVID-19.

Agree with the above. If that were true, schools would have not closed after spring break. And I wouldn’t be working from home for 4+ months and counting.

I'm fairly certain Betsy also believed bears made frequent visits to schools as well.

So why did we close schools back in April?

DeVos pushes for schools to reopen, defends CDC guidelinesBetsy Devos called the CDC's guidelines for reopening schools 'common sense' in a break from Trump, who previously said the rules are too burdensome. They agree, though, that children should return to class in the fall I want schools to open too but let’s do it the right way with the needed resources to make it happen, where it is prudent to do so. I heard her compare us to other countries & how they have successfully opened schools. Is she ignoring the differences in the numbers, like Trump😬 .BetsyDeVosED is a disgrace. She cares nothing for the children. We need an EDUCATOR in this office, preferably from the public school sector. Betsy DeVos won't say if schools should listen to CDC guidelines on reopeningEducation Secretary Betsy DeVos has refused to say whether schools should follow guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on reopening, saying those guidelines are meant to be 'flexible.' Her response SHOULD be - we are going to work with school districts throughout this country to make sure that our kids and teachers are safe. Every agency in this government is going to be focused on this issue - we need to do it for our kids and for our parents. It’s not hard. LA Teachers Union says they won't reopen unless the police are defunded, charter schools are closed, and Medicare for all. Tell me again how this is about a VIRUS.
