The lawyer for WNBA star Brittney Griner said Friday her pre-trial detention in Russia has been extended by one month. He also said he believes the relatively short extension indicated the case would come to trial soon.

The U.S. government said it would"continue to undertake efforts to provide appropriate support to Ms. Griner," who was in mid-February at a Russian airport, where officials claimed that Griner's luggage held vape cartridges with oil derived from cannabis, a charge which can result in up to 10 years in prison in Russia. "I wish she was here physically," Chicago Sky guard Allie QuigleyQuigley and Chicago Sky point guard Courtney Vandersloot both played with Griner during the WNBA offseason in Russia before her arrest.

Terri Jackson, the executive director of the WNBA Players Association, told CBS News she hopes Griner will be home before the season ends and said many of the players have been writing letters to her. © 2022 CBS Interactive Inc. Omg..let her go!

It shouldn't matter what her political views are, she is an American and deserves protection from her Government. Judging by the lack of media coverage, I can only assume that she isn't a very high priority to the Biden administration.

This sadly is despicable and so very wrong. The Russians are most likely abusing her mentally and physically!! She needs to be home, not is a madman's country!! Prayers!

An adult who has been there more than eight times who new the rules needs to deal with the consequences. Need not waste a lot of time when someone violates another countries laws. U r not so entitled sometimes.

Oh well. Hope she hasn’t been water boarded.
