BREAKING: Democrats' first attempt to move forward on voting rights has failed. They’ll now try to change Senate rules.

The Senate Democrats' first attempt Wednesday night to move forward with voting rights legislation failed due to a Republican filibuster. The attempt to change the Senate rules to pass the legislation with 50 votes is also likely to fail after Democratic Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona reiterated their opposition to their party's attempt to change Senate rules to get it passed.

Harris arrived on Capitol Hill Wednesday evening to oversee the vote. When asked if the election would be illegitimate if the Senate doesn't pass these bills, Harris said,"let's get these bills passed before we have this conversation." Manchin delivered his speech alongside a poster that read"The United States Senate has never been able to end debate with a simple majority" and called claims by his Democratic colleagues that eliminating the filibuster would restore the vision the founding fathers intended for the Senate"simply not true."

Senate Democrats moved forward with their vote on voting rights legislation Wednesday evening in an effort to expand access to the ballot, as some Republican-controlled state legislatures around the country pass and consider changes to election laws that constrain voting. Schumer brought the voting rights bills, which all 50 Senate Democrats support, to the Senate floor on Tuesday for debate via a procedural tool to bypass Republican opposition.

Schumer plans Senate rules vote to require 'talking filibuster' for voting billsU.S. Senate will vote on changing the rules to impose a 'talking filibuster' for voting legislation if Republicans block two bills slated for consideration, Senate Majority Leader Schumer says. Wasn’t that the intent of the filibuster to start with? He was so dead against changing the filibuster just a few years ago. As was Biden in '05. Senate braces for showdown over voting rights, filibuster rulePrepared to be disappointed. Instructed? Instructed by whom? The voters? I don’t think so. These people work on their agenda of tit for tat politics as America falls farther behind. Please don't watch this, don't listen to it, and don't listen to people tomorrow who want to talk about it, because this all means a sad day. Especially since most of the 'debate' is going to be about ID. Oops, sorry, should've said who's for or against, MORE ID!!
