Nearly half of Republican voters support federally decriminalizing cannabis, and GOP lawmakers are now beginning to reflect their constituents’ view by increasingly supporting broad legalization at the state and federal level

support federally decriminalizing cannabis

“When the culture becomes more accepting of something, even the most resistant groups get tugged along,” said Dan Judy, vice president of North Star Opinion Research, which focuses on Republican politics. “I don't want to directly conflate marijuana legalization with something like gay marriage, but I think there's a similar dynamic at play.”introduced by two Republican lawmakers — the first adult-use legalization bill to pass in a Republican-dominated chamber.

“Every two years, you get a new crop of members from both parties, but certainly from the Republican Party, who don't have to defend the drug war … and they don’t have to prop it up,” said cannabis advocate and former Maryland GOP state delegate Don Murphy. “They are free to vote their conscience.” Marijuana advocates are gearing up now to put legalization initiatives on the 2022 ballot in deep red states like Missouri, Idaho and Wyoming. The fact that more GOP-leaning voters are supportive of marijuana reform

Some Republicans also cite the racial disparities in marijuana arrests as a reason to fix federal law — though Democrats focus more strongly on criminal justice reform on the whole. And, as is the case for Democrats, the shift is often generational: Texas Young RepublicansThe shift within the GOP at times is less about lawmakers’ own beliefs about marijuana and more about how much the public has shifted on the subject.

natsfert SenBooker SenSchumer POTUS RepNancyMace, The time is now to get this done. Not just SAFE, the opportunity is here to put this to rest with full legalization. Show the nation that compromise is possible in government. How refreshing it would be!!!

Back this and lower federal income taxes

NicoleElliottCA I’m no fan of Mace, but that tax rate is hard to not want inside the industry if it isn’t to end up and oligopoly…

natsfert Please no more false hope. Big Pharma & others like private prison companies own too many in Congress to let anything pass. GOP just getting tired of taking all the blame.

Actually marijuana was named illegal back in prohibition times of no alcohol. As since they made alcohol legal they had no where to find jobs for government thus marijuana became illegal to create government jobs 70 +percent believe in legalizing marijuana

I will never believe what the polls say after the former guy was elected in 2016.

It seems as if the whole debate is going up in smoke.

But they are alone in not overturning free and fair elections. They are alone in ending gerrymandering. Way more important for this Democracy. 🇺🇸

Legalization seems to be working great in Canada where the profits have been taken away from drug dealing cartels and are now in the hands of the treasury for the benefit of all Canadians.

Jim fucking Boehner left congress to go grow pot...

Now that numerous states have passed laws. It’s time for some changes in federal law to catch up w/the times. IMHO

This has 0 to do with supporting their constituents. This has to do with them seeing massive amount of money can be made. Trust me, when they realize cops can't shoot unarmed black people for 'smelling' weed, they will change their minds. This is to gain votes for 22.

where there is money to be made....

Cannabis saved my life. Thank you, God, for this tremendously healing herb.............

Not sure which is more ridiculous, our obsession to smoke pot or our obsession to stop people from smoking pot. There are more important things in life than a stupid weed.

I know we all probably must have heard about Bitcoin but don't know how it works, I tried it in a week ago by a man who recommended me to Derrick_Jones39 on Twitter he guides me through and i made a return of $10500 after a week of trading, connect with him

I have mixed feelings about legalizing, but they are missing out on tax dollars by not doing it...look at how much alcohol brings in.

Dems need to get behind 100% federal legalization, its a winner politically and morally

Leave it up to the democrats to wait so long to legalize that republicans will get the political victory for it

I guess more and more people are starting to smell the money.

Make everything legal and voluntary
