A month on, the Cool For The Summer singer had opened up even more about their relationship with gender and identity. The 28-year-old discussed their journey over the past 18 months and their family's loving reaction to them coming out as non-binary.

Speaking about their announcement with Ryan Mitchell on Audacy, the star said: "After a year-and-a-half of exploration, I realised it was time to let the world know that It feels weird to me when I get called a she or a her, and I understand that people might have a hard time adjusting to it because it is something new, but I want to encourage people to keep trying." headtopics.com

They added: "I’m still, every day, stepping more and more into the identity that feels right to me, which is my pronouns being 'they/them.'"The American star also discussed their friends adapting to their non-binary identity. "Friends have had a little harder time to get used to, actually ... just because I think, like, your friends are the ones that you’re more likely to be like, 'B****!'" Demi said.

"I’m like, 'Look, you can still call me b****.'"The actor, who rose to fame appearing in Camp Rock in 2008, went on to note that sometimes they "might have to choose" a male and female pronoun under certain unique circumstances.

They said: "I was in Texas, and I was like, 'Does that make me a cowboy or a cowgirl?' I don't want to be a cow human, so I’m just going to go with cowgirl."The star's chat comes after they recently moved actress and activist Jane Fonda to tears on their podcast, 4D With Demi Lovato.

The legendary movie star was discussing her career and ongoing fight to tackle climate change on a recent episode of the hit podcast when the topic changed to Demi's journey to feeling comfortable with their gender identity.Discussing her decision to adopt a shorter hairstyle, they told the 83-year-old: “The reasoning behind me cutting my hair off was because I was shedding all of the gender norms that had been placed on me growing up female in this world. headtopics.com
