PORT-AU-PRINCE - The international aid system is deeply flawed and needs an overhaul, Haitian President Jovenel Moise said on Saturday, almost 10 years since the impoverished Caribbean island nation was struck by one of the deadliest earthquakes in history.
Experts blame bad governance, excessive bureaucracy, waste and inflated contracts that were given mostly to foreign companies for the lack of progress, which was hampered further by corruption and political power struggles. “There has been no credible, long-term policy as to what to do with this money,” Moise said, faulting donors and Haiti’s weak institutions.
While there is also no consensus as to how much aid Haiti received from international organizations in recent years - or what really constituted aid - most estimates put the number at above $10 billion. Moise, who himself is under pressure to resign almost three years into his five-year term, or to hold early elections, recognized that Haiti’s most pressing problem were its weak institutions. Haiti has had 15 presidents in the past 33 years.
Belgium send a lot if money to the Clinton foundation, where is it
Wasn’t it Haiti that the Clinton foundation was supposed to send millions of dollars to but they spent it themselves. Isn’t it funny that New York judges shut down Trump’s charity but not Hillary’s?
The world needs your shade Nice.
Yes, we should stop aiding the rest of the world. Great idea! Haiti America
