Death toll rises to 51 after migrants found in abandoned tractor-trailer in Texas

The bodies of 46 dead migrants were discovered inside an abandoned tractor-trailer on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas. 16 others were taken to the hospital with heat-related illnesses. Those in the trailer were part of a presumed migrant smuggling attempt into the United States, and the investigation is being led by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. Three people were taken into custody.

San Antonio has been a recurring scene of tragedy and desperation in recent years involving migrants in semitrailers. Of the sixteen people taken to hospitals Monday with heat-related illnesses, five later died. Some were in critical condition, according to the hospitals.

This is tragic. Cartels make huge amounts of money trafficking people into the US. Anyone involved in human trafficking should be given life in prison. Every vehicle entering from Mexico should be searched. The wall needs to be completed and reinforced.

Just like at ports of entry, we need machinery at borders where these types of tractor trailers come across to look inside every truck
