added this editor's note to the interview:"When Dave Rubin went in search of an online publication that would share the following interview, which had been deep-sixed by a 'big gay mag' OutKick heeded the call, in keeping with OutKick founder Clay Travis' unshakeable belief in the First Amendment "
"This beeftastic forty-five-year-old's words leave him so confidently that you cannot help but become a bit hypnotized because you sincerely listen to every word as he sips his Spindrift water, although may have been imagining it was some tequila — which could've definitely made our conversation rowdier, but I'll take what I can get!"
But it's hard to argue Keating canceled. In fact, his interview with Rubin likely reached a much larger audience, given its publication by three well-trafficked right-wing sites. Similarly Rubin was not"cancelled," no one who previously supported him is disowning him or cutting off his access to sharing his message.
I also reached out via email and social media to Clay Travis, RedState, and The Post Millennial, asking for some specifics — such as what was Keating's reasoning for not publicly naming the publisher, and whether or not anyone from their sites actually spoke with the publisher that wouldn't run the interview.
The note continues:"It can be hard to stand up for your belief in free speech in the face of a social media mob that would sooner crush you than listen with an open mind. The heartbreak that publisher must feel at having had to deny his friend and colleague a place in that publication is very real, and he had every reason to believe that his publication would suffer in the face of an online mobbing.
To present this episode as a principled stand of unity against mob censorship, all it would take is for one or two of the principals involved — the interviewer, the interviewee, any editor at the three publications that ran the interview — to confirm a few facts.
