The new symphony features members who play with the Houston Ballet, Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera

“These guys are so good,” says Wilke, speaking of his group made up of members of Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, and Houston Symphony. “These guys are professionals. It’ll be a bit of a mess the first rehearsal, but by the second night everything will be right on. That’s the gift of professionals.”

The upcoming program contains some interesting works that should suit the 22-piece orchestra nicely. Among them is Richard Wagner’s “Siegfried Idyll,” which the composer wrote for his wife as a Christmas/birthday present. He debuted it in their own home, starting the piece while she was still asleep and drawing her to the stairs in rapt wonder.
