But when two NBC News producers visited state-funded CPCs in Texas to ask for counseling, counselors told them that abortions caused mental illness and implied abortions could also cause cancer and infertility.
At another CPC in the Dallas area, a volunteer disclosed that the center does not offer abortions and then repeated the falsehood that abortions can cause infertility. Asked about the abortion pill, the volunteer told a producer, “My job is not to scare you … you never get over seeing that baby.
Established by the Texas legislature in 2005, a program called “Alternatives to Abortion” or A2A helps fund the state’s CPCs. Texas initially spent $5 million every two years on the program, but that figure has ballooned to a record $100 million for 2022 and 2023, according to public records.is to “reduce abortions and improve pregnancy outcomes,” “improve child health and development” and “improve families’ economic self-sufficiency.
, before many women even know they’re pregnant. With Roe v. Wade now overturned, Texas has a trigger law banning virtually all abortions, which will go into effect soon.
Words taken straight out of the book 'The Handmaid's Tale'.
In all fairness NBC misinforms people every day
And this surprises who? 1. It's Texas ...and 2. It's Texas......
Why aren’t these illegal? They’re in the healthcare space right?
Studies have shown that Texas itself causes mental illness. As such, researchers have concluded that the only remedy is amputation....
It's Texas. What more do you need to know.
Oh surprise.
Religious zealots always have & always will lie through their teeth to achieve their purpose.
Of course they did.
It is criminal.
This is an interesting thread from a medical doctor that addresses these claims.
Texas councillors ? Consider the source.
They misunderstood, they meant to say mentally ill get abortions!
1967
Here we go again.
I watched this story a couple days ago.. these facilities are religious based and do not employ doctors or nurses.
These pregnancy centers provide material help to women but it comes with a load of purposefully erroneous medical info.
NBC has a very sick agenda
Tune in on the Fourth of July to see our special coverage in a report entitled “The presidency, a technical analysis”
spaceandbeans Depression not a mental Illness
A clearly biased report based on a twisted conclusion. Little supporting data supplied when they clearly have much more which does not support their interpretation. Typical reporting from NBC. Do better.
Keep em pregnant and barefoot
Raise your hand if you're surprised
Odd but not shocking that NBC didn’t care to visit the border on their way out 😏
No. You are the ones that are misinformed
JesseFFerguson LIED you mean
Misinformed? They intentionally lied to you. That's the whole MO of these clinics that you've suddenly discovered.
Exclusive: EVERYONE HAS KNOWN FOR YEARS MediaFailsUsDaily
brownandbella Everyone knows this, just like apparently it's their right to lie to pregnant ppl trying to get medical care cuz 'free speech'. Why don't we report on how the anti-choice movement is coordinated to lie and coerce and harm?
Baby jeebuz doesn't like people who lie.
... You're telling on yourself again. .. very telling, bigly.. yuuuge.
“Misinformed”? Really? How about “lied”?
Maybe read this thread 🧵
Are you embarrassed to call you late-to-the-party report exclusive? Or is this a report from more than a decade ago that you were following up on and garbled the headline?
Really? Great investigative journalism🤣
While it may be a stretch for some, I imagine theres women out there having a tough time dealing with their decision...which would be a mental illness of sorts. If the procedure goes wrong, there most certainly is a risk of infertility.
I'm sure some women are grief-stricken from what they did. Which could cause severe depression and even PTSD.
They likely believe themselves to be righteous Christians.
Const_Overhaul This is unacceptable. EbertOrtho told my autistic child they'd get cancer of they didn't have some of their teeth removed. This is malpractice.
NBC--Rather than post a 29-paragraph essay on the history of abortion in Texas, why not tell us WHEN your 'producers' visited counseling centers? Is there a reason the story is UNDATED?
Look at one of those pro abortion protests and tell me with a straight face that they aren’t chock full of the mentally ill
Was Antifa sent in directly afterwards to burn the place to the ground?
